Day date setting procedures
I am now in the day-date club. I have read the instruction booklet several times on setting the day, date and time. But somewhere in my memory I remember a verbal instruction in this rolex forum that it should not be set like 2 hours either side of midnight for fear of damaging the gears Or something like that. The Rolex instruction book doesn’t mention anything like that.
Can anyone offer Any tips on setting without any fear of stressing or damaging the internals of my pride and joy. Thank you in advance. Dudman |

It has been noted by many sources that the internals may be damaged over time if the day/date is set while the hands are close to midnight.
I follow a simple rule: I set the hands to show 6:30 and then proceed to change the date/day accordingly. I figure that in that position they are the furthest away from 12!! Oh and congratulations on your new watch! Nicolas |

There is a caution on the new Day Date movements.
It pertains to setting the hands backwards during a certain time. It does not appear to be about damage, but rather about the day or date getting out of sync. This procedure is better spelled out in the booklet. If it is not the newer movement, you can set the day or date at any time.

"Avoid changing the date or day after setting the time in a counterclockwise direction between 4 p.m. and 10.30 p.m."
This is what is mentioned in the booklet of DD40 ref-228238 |

Thank you Nicc,Larry and Sachit.
