Potential purchase 116509... which dial?

I’m in the market hoping to make my first PM watch! I’ve long debated the 505, but based on my steel collection at the moment, I’d like to lay low and not be too showy. Best way to do this is going for the 509, but I’m debating which dial to get?

Would you guys opt for the blue dial or the gray/Champaign panda dial? Would it be wise to opt for a second hand Arabic slate dial with red hands and red 60 minute track?

Below are online pics. Not mine

I love all 3 dials to be honest and can’t think which one to go for. Maybe one that would hold value most? Since I don’t mind either one of them.

I would go with #1 or #3, with #1 probably winning out.

To state the obvious.....only your taste counts. But in terms of sheer class, the blue dial every time. And best not to make guesses about future value; choose what you actually want.

My choice is clear...the Champagne Panda dial...very subtle (like the white gold itself). Few civilians notice it:

I think the blue dial is stunning. The red really pops the most on this one IMO

Potential purchase 116509... which dial?

I want so badly to love the blue dial but on the wrist it just didn’t do it for me. I think it lacks a necessary contrast or some color pop. I’ve tried it on multiple times and keep walking away a little underwhelmed. If you haven’t tried these on, be sure to do so before you purchase. I ended up going with the 519LN and couldn’t be happier.

If it were me picking this up I’d opt for the blue dial but I also really like the way Rolex does their blue dial watches.

I think #2 would wear great dressed or casual. I have seen that blue dial in person and was very impressed. Has that POP factor.

Is the blue dial, the same sunburst blue we see on the 116613LB or the 116622 blue YM? Same shade of blue?

I would go and actually am buying the blue dial. Of the three I think it is the best. I think the red hands against the gray is a bit much over the long term and while the gray dial really rocks on the Ceramic Oysterflex it is a little too monochrome against the WG bezel.

You pick the right model. Any Daytona is complete in a world of watch collection.

My advise is to avoid anything with numbers or Roman numeral or gold or two tone. Those get outdated overtime. Trust me.

Blue is a winner. Panda is nice too but more simple compared to the blue.

Matte black dial is awesome in person. Fits the Daytona well.

Tried on the blue wanting to love it but ... Rolex blue doesn't work for me. Looked purplish in direct sunlight. Panda looks good, would be even better with a ceramic bezel. Have owned the Arabic matte 509 - great watch but you must get it in mint condition. Once there's wear on the bezel it doesn't look great and only full bezel replacement will fix it.

Good luck with your purchase. I think John Mayer called the blue one a sleeper most recently, so if value is what you are looking for then that might be it given the buzz he created on it. Heard pieces flew off the shelves after him saying.
