1st post.. Need some advice, do I have lemon?
Greetings fellow members, hope everyone having a relaxing 4th. So I recently purchased an explorer 214270) MK2) from an AD in Miami. I noted that the watch was supposed to carry a 48 hr reserve. I tested this out, more out of sheer curiosity (no movement, 40 winds etc) and noted that it was only making it to 40 hours. I called my AD and they advised it be sent to Rolex for investigation. It was gone for about 4 weeks and came back with a clean bill of health. Now, I have checked it and it is averaging about 30 hours. I ask for your advice from here. What do I do? Am I entitled to ask my AD for a replacement as this is literally a 3 month old purchase, or do I have them send it back to rolex for another check. Please help, any advice appreciated.

Ok thank you. I was doing at least 40 winds but will try more. Thank you for your response.

Doesn’t sound too bad. As Padi says try winding it a little more. In the mean time you could post a photo here using Tapatalk but I doubt you need to be worried.

My understanding (correct me if I'm wrong) was that the 40 winds to get the watch running would not fully wind the watch, so you shouldn't expect the full 2 days of power from that initial wind.
If you bought this watch new from an AD the chances of having a lemon are pretty slim. I'd wear the watch for a few weeks, see if you notice any odd time keeping tendencies (like, one day it'll be 2 seconds fast, the next day it's 10 seconds slow, then it's 8 seconds fast, etc....it should have the same error, roughly, day to day). And if you notice it stopping overnight after wearing it a few days straight, that's another warning sign. Basically just give it some time, enjoy the watch, and don't panic! |

No, no, no! What does 40 winds mean anyway? 40 light twists? 40 full rotations? How long is a piece of string? Just wear the watch and if it works and keeps good time, be happy. Constantly worrying and sending you watch here and there to be checked is a sure recipe for disaster.
