Effect on waitlist of buying non-rolex watches at ADs?

If one is to buy, say, an Omega watch at a Rolex AD while having expressed interest in SS professional Rolex pieces, does this have any impact on ability to get the Rolex (whether quicker, or at all)? Or does only buying unpopular or PM Rolex models affect Rolex waitlist?

It should expedite your request, because you are helping them clear their inventory, regardless of brand.

Yes. Watches, gold, diamonds etc. The $ goes to AD and inventory leaves their building regardless what it is.

I guess it depends on how many non-Rolex watches you buy...and what sort of contribution margin your AD enjoys.

Have you asked your AD how many watches you should buy? Why not make a large payment - unless you really want those other watches. Perhaps he'll take $50K for a Steel Daytona?

Buying anything from your AD helps, but it’s all relative. If you’re dropping $1000 on something but another client spends 100,000 annually, you’re going to be lower on the totem pole.

I dont follow that "business model" .Never have, never will .I shop the old way ..I enquire ,if they sell it to me ..great.If not ...too bad .If I have to wait, also good. There is high demand everywhere.

My AD does look at past purchases and if you support other brands you can get lucky with the SS Rolexes.

Best bet is Omega.

Novel idea. Buy the Omega, you might just really like it and forget about all the nonsense that is involved in obtaining a watch that is no better than the Omega.

There will always be the big spenders who are preferred customers.
In many cases they can spend close to 6 figures a year.

A regular customer buying a Datejust will get closer to a waiting list piece but will often still be trumped by the big spenders.

As long as someone buying another watch doesn’t expect a sports model in return

At least you don't look like a flipper which will help but depends on how many VIPs this AD has to satiate as to what you get, should help with the outlier SS.

Yes it will help. Purchasing product from them and also it shows you are interested in more than just Rolex/hot watches.

It will help depending on the money. If you want another watch from a different Brand then that might be good. I would not buy at full retail though depending on what the watches trade for pre-owned. If you are looking for a Daytona-C then hang it up unless you are buying an expensive PP,VC, AL&S. Such is the game.

I thought about something similar but instead of buying another brand I’m thinking about mowing his lawn or maybe painting his house. Wonder if anyone of them need a kidney. What about dating an AD’s daughter or better yet, marrying her. Think that might work better?

Yes, why not make a friendly $20K donation to your favorite AD? This is getting a little ridiculous.

No question - purchase history is purchase history regardless of what you buy.

I bought my wife's engagement ring from my AD, and had purchased several watches since then. Definitely helps.

Agreed.
Where is the line in this type of strategy??
I’m sure if you go to an AD and offer to buy, say, $100k of diamonds you can package that buy with the Professional SS model of your choice. Just make sure the AD delivers that watch at the same time he delivers the other merchandise. He will find that watch someplace for a hundred grand in other sales.

Over priced jewelry or diamonds is the only way now. Other than 5 big bangs at full retail.
