I have spoken to two ADs about the old GMT II (coke,pepsi, and blackie). they said even though they have been discontinued not a single day passes by without somebody inquiring if they still have them. both of them said if they only knew they will be this famous after the discontinuation they would have stocked them up and sell them today with a premium.

how true is this? so are the precerachrome GMT's considered collectibles now?

i believe it... i recently bought 2 gmt's... one a z(red/blue) and M(red/black) great watches.... very comfortable on the wrist and lighter than a sub... i also prefer the clasp even though everyone else loves the newer style clasps

where did you get them? from an AD? i had to go through our very own Alex to get mine. and they command better price than their cerachrome counterparts.

Dont know why you would think the modern GMT11 would be considered collectable its basically not changed since 1988/9 so must be quite a few around.The only changes are now non lug hole case and a few minor font details and some with the modded 3185 into a 3186 and thats it.

In my opinion, no special appeal that won't instantly disappear when Rolex figures out how to do two-tone in ceramic.

The coke / pepsi bezels have existed for so long and are so identified as "Rolex" that it's only natural that folks would inquire about them due to their iconic status. Most probably don't even know it's a 2 TZ movement.

my brother inquired about the 16710 at RDV downtown. And the lady said they dont have any left. My brother was pretty bummed out when she told him.

I'm so glad I grabbed one! I did find a pepsi at a small jeweler here in Houston about 3 months ago and it was a D series.....priced at a whopping $7k! Unbelievable! I wonder if it's still there.

I do not know why there would be a premium on the older GMT-II"s and at $7000.00, that's crazy!!! I'm sure if someone looks hard enough they will be able to find one w/o the huge premium.

Yes its all true - especially the old GMT's with the 3186 movement.
