Wedding Day Watch
Howzit! I don't post much, but I've been following for a while. My fiance wants to purchase a brand new Rolex Explorer I with a special message engraving for to be presented to me on our wedding day in a couple months. Perfect supplement to my lonely Tudor Black Bay Blue ETA.
As expected, at every local AD I've been told something to the fact of "we'll kindly take your name and number down and hope to have it to you by your wedding day." After a few months wait, I sadly think we'll need to look at other options, and buying 2nd hand or grey market will not be an option. She doesn't want to pay the grey market mark-up or 2nd hand due to it being a personalized wedding watch. I wanted to ask what you think of the new Zenith Defy Classic Skeleton (titanium or ceramic)? It really caught my eye this morning and thought it may be a good alternative. |

Wedding Day Watch
After tax the explorer will be around $7k from an AD.
For $500 more just get a new one from DavidSW. https://davidsw.com/watches/rolex-wa...70-explorer-7/ Small dollars in the grand scheme of things when it’s a $7k watch and knowing it’ll be a gift for your wedding day. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

+1 on getting a new one from one of the trusted sellers. Exp1 is a classic and I would pick it over your Zenith choice. Congrats in advance!

In Oregon there is no sales tax so that statement would never fly for me, but if I was in CA, yeah it makes more sense. I don't know how people pay sales tax, though. Would kill me.

My wedding day watch in 2004 was a 36mm Explorer.
It looks as good today as it did then! Don’t settle for second best on a watch you’ll keep forever. |

What's an extra$500 on a $6500 watch?
But you'd rather get a zenith defy skeleton? Will you like the defy in 25 years? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Thanks guys for your input. Being that it’s a wedding watch, I think a more classic design like an explorer would be something I could wear years and years down the line. And can’t beat a Rolex durability. The zenith skeleton just really stood out to me.
Looks like she is okay going grey :). I showed my fiance all of the responses so far haha. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I did exactly this (well bought for myself). Luckily my AD was able to get one in quick time as the three people ahead of me agreed to forego their position in the queue to help me out. It’s a wonderful thing.
Good luck! |

https://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=678288 Arguably one of the hardest watches to get right now. I’d keep checking ADs and shoot the shit with them and see what happens. Explain you know the current market and suggest that you want to get it engraved. One may magically appear.
