PAM683 Submersible Thoughts?

I was curious if anyone owns or has seen the new PAM683 Submersible in-person. I think it looks like a great watch, and I'm intrigued by the 42mm size. I like the 1389, but it wears just a little big for me, even though I've been tempted to pick it up a number of times.

I really liked the 682, but the few I've seen in-person had a good amount of bezel play that I wasn't impressed with. I'm curious if those issues have been worked out with the PAM683.

Any thoughts/pictures/feedback are appreciated. Thanks!

I tried on the 682 couple of weeks ago and liked it very much. I think the metal bezel fits the watch character better than the ceramic one. The movement in the 682 is a P.9010 Panerai in-house movement while the 683 has the calibre XXXIV that is a movement shared with other Richmont Group brands like Baume Mercier. A Baume Mercier with basically the same movement costs USD2600 and the Panerai 683 is USD9500.

I clearly favour the 682 and will buy it hopefully soon.

PAM683 Submersible Thoughts?

Tried on one when I dropped off my 233 to get serviced. Lovely watch and am strongly considering it.

I agree it's a little disappointing about the movement change, but that's probably not a total deal breaker for me. I like the black bezel, and would have gotten a 1389 or 389 a long time ago but that 47mm is tough for me. I briefly had a 1305 but traded it in just due to the size, it wasn't as comfortable as I had hoped.

One thing I did notice on my 1305 was the rotor was pretty loud, it was the first series with the clear back, but I didn't love the rotor noise. Maybe the new PAM683 movement is a little quieter?

Bezel was not as smooth turning as a Rolex Bezel. Completely forgot to shake the watch to listen for a noisy rotor movement. Size is perfect as for me the 47mm Submersibles wear just ever so slightly too big for my wrists. Solid feeling watch. Better then a Rolex Submariner? Not in my eyes but as part of a collection it is a lovely watch.

I really like the 682 and the 683. I own the 1389 and think it is a great watch. This would be a watch I would shop for and price would be the mover for me. I would need 20-25% off from the AD or an amount of straps and buckles that equal that amount. Go for it.

That was the sticking point. Ad was only giving 5% off list price Ł8300 and a few straps. And also an extra 3yrs warranty on top of the two years. Not sure if that deal is sweet enough.

I also think I want a new one instead of one that everybody has been trying on for the last few months. The sales guy said I should take it as it won’t hang around long. It was there 4weeks ago when I dropped my watch off to be serviced so it is not exactly flying out the door. It is not a Rolex SS model.

Not sure if any AD would give 20/25% discount on a watch anymore. What do people think?

I can't speak to a UK dealer, but I definitely think around 20% would be attainable at a US AD. 25% would be a substantial discount, but might be attainable for a customer with a really established relationship.

Definitely no discount at a boutique, they don't budge at all, which is why I've never purchased from one.

We had a preowned 682 that I wore for months. I absolutely loved it. The new ceramic bezel was the only thing that stopped me, and just seeing the new one at our boutique made my pocket book scared.

Bought a pam683 12th of Juli and it stopped working!!

Hi guys,

I was really happy with my new 683 42mm i bought at harrods london on the 12th of July. I wore it during the day and took it of at night.
On the 19th it started being slow and i had to change the time because it was behind. Eventually on the 25th it just stopped working! Even if i turn it clockwise very carefull untill you hear a click (full charge) it stops after 10min.
Panerai itself is never available in Harrods but a gentleman at the fine watchroom advised me to put the watch safe en return it when i come back from the states on the 1th of September!!! I’m so dissapointed...bad feeling what could be wrong this whole summer until i’m back in the UK! Worst experience ever and this is my first!!! Watch!!!!

Sorry to hear that. Hopefully it is just a one off. Am sure it will get serviced and come back fine. I recently took my 233 to the boutique on bond st tonget serviced as the movement stopped as well. Mine was 10yrs old though.

Hope you don’t mind me asking but how much did you pay for the 683 in Harrods? Did they offer a discount?

Hopefully things will work out in September when I return it to Harrods.
The bad thing is that I’m making myself crazy with things that might not have happened...was it returned bij somebody else (14day return policy) was it showed and used a lot by the store to inform customers. Know i shouldnt be doing that but ok..you think about it. Harrods will solve the issue im sure.
I paid full price unfortunately. (Didn’t even think about a discount as it is my first watch)
I was wearing the watch today with the time standing still...feld weird!
Still in love with it though!

If this isn’t a big issue with the watch and all will be fine im going to buy the all black militare carbon end of the year!

sorry to hear your unlucky experience, I bought a carbotech pam 1616 2 weeks ago and it works fine. if you are going to purchase a carbotech later, I would suggest you also take a look at the pam 1039, which is a carbotech submersible with gmt function and a stunning dail made of a sail cloth from Luna rossa. however, its price is almost the same as a ss Rolex pepsi(market price).would be a tough choice, haha.

If possible always ask for a new watch that has not been tried on otherwise you should be definitely getting some discount on a shop floor model.
The militate carbon has a different movement inside. It also wears a lot bigger as it is 47mm. Have you tried one on. Am going to try the 683 on again. Not sure if I find it slightly too small but I feel the 47mm is slightly too big. 44mm on the submersibles would have been the perfect size.

Let us know how you get on in September.

Yes! Thats a hard lesson im learning right now! I will ask them when I return to harrods and see what they have to say about it. My feeling says it has been showed to many times and now it breaks down with me. I will take your advise on that one and ask for an unused one next time! I’ve tried on the 47mm as well and i found it also to big. I have fairly big hands and for some reason the 42mm doesn’t look small. The carbon i want to buy with the different movement is the 979 47mm and also that one ,maybe because of its blackness , looks smaller then the other 47mm’s. I will keep you guys updates on the return process in September! Can’t wait....

I had a 682.

Love the size and weight.
A 44mm Sub with the 1950s case would be cool.

The 682 bezel does have more play than on my DSSD, and doesn't feel as refined. The 682 bezel moves in 1-min clicks vs the 1/2-min intervals of the DSSD bezel. But overall, the 682 bezel was fine.

The rotor was loud, but I didn't mind.
I had the display back and loved looking at the movement. Shame they went to the more generic Richemont movement. I liked the independent hour hand on the p.9010. Made travel easier.

I tried both 682 and 1616 in a boutique, the bezel on the 1616 turns much smoother and clicks clearer and louder. looks like they have updated the bezel.

Quick update on my 983 issue..just came back from a store called “london jewelers” east hampton and a specialist that services panerai watches could tell me by just listening that my timepiece is broken. There is something wrong withmy winding meganism.
His advise was take it back to harrods panerai under warranty and they will help me sort this out. Service should be excellent. Will take 4-6 weeks though! Will update in September!
Little piece of mind although it let me down already...

something broken in the movement in less than a month? that's scary. hope panerai service department can take care of your watch professionally and gives you explanation on the damage. good luck.

That doesn’t sound great to have a watch and it breaks within a month. Things happen and it will get fixed. Can you take it back to Harrods and say you want a brand new piece?
