A Presidential Incoming!

It's taken me many years to get to this point, but I finally did it! Ever since I started watch collecting, the Daydate on President bracelet has been the one that I would always think of first when I thought of Rolex.

I thought long and hard about the gold colour and dial I've wanted. One of the benefits (and a pitfall) of the DD lineup is simply the amount of choice available. One day I would want WG and not YG. Then it would be RG or Platinum. Then it would be the YG. Kept going back and forth between gold colours and decided to go with the YG as it's a true classic, albeit rather flashy and a more decidedly more "mature" look. I keep thinking of the classic DD as being in YG, and my first DD had to be in YG! Either way, I really think it is hard to go wrong.

Then came the dial choice. Again, I think there is truly no wrong answer as they are all stunning in their own right. I was divided between the silver motif dial or the black motif dial. I chose the black motif dial this time because of the right opportunity, and I am glad I did so. It seems to be one of the less commonly loved dials on the YG (champagne or silver seems to get more love), but I think the beauty of the black motif dial is very hard to capture in pictures. In some lighting, the pure black is reminiscent of the Onyx dials in the past, while in others, it really glimmers with a very subtle diagonal motif and sunburst pattern. The contrast against the YG metal is simply stunning, and in my view, it keeps it classy, while being a tad bit sportier than the white/champagne dials.

The heft is something I've gotten used to within a day or two - at first it was noticeably heavier. The President bracelet is very comfortable in the way it drapes around the wrist. However, in a perfect world, there would be some form of microadjustment, which I've been spoiled by on the Easylink/Glidelock clasps, but I guess that's the cost of the elegant hidden clasp. It has to be sized right as wearing it too loose would be uncomfortable and sloppy given the heavy case.

This is a piece that will admittedly only be an occasional wearer for me. It is very loud and can be considered obnoxious in some settings. Now I know some are of the view that you should wear whatever and not care what others think, but I still remain somewhat self conscious wearing a bold, full gold piece like this. But in the right time and scenario, this piece is just perfect.

Anyways, enough talk, and on to some photos. Hope you all enjoy.

I was always of the opinion that YG was too bold and loud until I got my first one. Now I want to wear it all the time.

I'll swear to the fact that wearing a YG Rolex gives you superpowers.

Congrats on the purchase!

Beautiful choice congrats !! The black dial really pops against that YG case.

I feel the same way, growing up I always associated the YG day/date as THE Rolex.

Great choice, the President (Day-Date) line up is the top of the Rolex tree. I know it has taken you years to get to this point so now enjoy it.

Great colour combination by the way.

You said it wouldn't be a regular daily, but be assured that every day that you wear it and look down and admire it will be a slightly better day.

Congratulations.

I wear a white gold DD40; I’m slightly puzzled that you would buy a watch you considered ‘obnoxious’ in some situations. Hopefully you now feel different. I do like the black dial....

Congratulations dude! The DD40 is an awesome piece and I think going YG was the right choice. How'd you end up fitting your bracelet?

I feel like my ideal fit was between sizes so I ended up opting for a little snug as a little too loose. If I change my mind, I can always add the link back in or change as seasons change.

Now that you're used to the weight your SS pieces are going to feel super light!

What’s your wrist size and how do you feel about the fit you have?
