Another sub date vs no date question

Here me out fellas.

I currently own a 2010 model 116610 which I purchased pre-owned. I have been offered a brand new 114060 from my AD tax free.

Should I sell the 116610 and replace it with the 114060? I should be able to sell the date for about $12,000 local currency and buy the new no date for $9,000.

In terms of preference between the two models, I would say I lean very, very, very slightly towards the date version. The reason I prefer the date is because it gives the watch a little more Rolex bling and deep down I will always know it is the more expensive out of the 2.

But the no date is new with warranty, would have my name on the card, obviously be in mint condition and I can bank 3k difference. I also have little to no use for the date as it is a weekend watch and I have dress watches to wear during the weekdays.

What are you thoughts?

Cheers.

Same watch, save for the date. I like both...really just preference. I am not much for flipping, but upgrading to a brand new watch with full warranty, and getting $3,000 sounds like an easy choice.

always choose the date over the ND. You will regret it later if you choose the ND.

The only reason to sell the sub date would be for profit. I prefer the date over the no date any date .

Even under my circumstances? If they were both brand new I would choose the date. Forgot to mention that my AD should be able to get me a Pepsi within 12 months which has the date function.

In this instance, I would rather have 3K (plus warranty) than a date.

I'm a fan of all Subs but I'd take the 114060 over the 116610.
Prefer the cleaner, true to it's roots dial.

Agree. I prefer the sub versus the date, have one myself.

It's a no brainer when you are offered 3k to get a new watch.

I’ve got the date but I wear mine daily and use the function, if it’s just a weekend watch go ND as it’s a nice cleaner look

Rolex watches should not be about like you call it more Rolex Bling and more expensive. It should be about the watch you want to wear hopefully in good health for many years to come, its not all about bling and $$$$$££££.

If only one watch, keep the date. If multiple watches, then no date.

In your case with dress watches already in the stable, I'd swap out for a shiny new watch. Plus if you want to be really technical about banking the cash, the new warranty has real value since there's a real cost to servicing the watch eventually, be that in another 2 years or 7 years. Of course, that's just my self rationalizing for new!

If you need the money sell and do the trade. If you don’t, and could afford both, get the no date as the two compliment each other. It’s not about which is more expensive in my book. It’s about what you like. I like the no day for weekends when I don’t care what day it is. You can’t go wrong with either. Good luck and good health.

I prefer the ND model in SS and like the balance of the dial and what I consider the classic Submariner. Add in 3k back to you and a better place on the list for another Rolex you want from the AD at msrp and the answer is trade. When you add a service from Rolex for $800-$1200 it does not make much sense to me. Good luck and let us know what you decide.

No Date - truer to the 1953 original (Date did not come until 12 years later in 1965); better looking in my opinion; and you will love the crystal sans cyclops.

And it will make a great companion to your future jubilee GMT

The money really shouldn’t be a factor at all in your decision. Personally, I think the 114060 is a better looking watch. There’s obvious fiscal and paperwork incentives to choosing it over the 116610, but for me it’s as simple as it’s a better looking watch.

He’s not a minority in that opinion. Stainless steel prices are obscenely bloated at this time and many of us have built collections over the past several decades that are worth a lot more now than we paid for. That said, we built those collections out of a love of the brand and the product it produced. Many of us couldn’t care less if there was a quick buck to make by selling one watch for another. Most of us who have been doing this for awhile also understand that despite how much the prices of Rolex sport models have increased on the grey market, it may not last and that there are far more reliable “investments” than wrist watches. You can make a lot more than a few grand by investing money wisely than buying some watches and hoping they climb in value.

They don't compliment each other. Its like buying two Toyota camrys that are the same except one has a standard wheels and the other has the optional wheels.

Maybe, maybe not. Private sale of watches is sometimes not as easy as it may seem. Lots of crocodiles in that pond Dundee.
