How many of you would like to see an end to the individual shortage threads?

Post after post - it's getting really tiring to see the same thread over and over again. How many of you would like to see an end to the shortage threads? Would it be possible to request the moderators of the forum to sticky a mega thread where people could post / discuss shortages rather than starting new threads? And if any new independent threads are created, those get automatically deleted.

We seriously see several similar threads on the topic every day. I feel like doing this leave the forum cleaner for discussion on other topics.

Hopefully this thread isn't against any TRF rules - if so feel free to remove. Thought it would just be interesting to get the dialogue going.

If we did that we would have to shut down the Rolex Sub Forum as there would be hardly any threads left.

But isn’t this a thread on shortages?

I do agree with you they get really old but unless people stop posting them they aren’t stopping. So just don’t bother reading them like most of us.

They don’t ‘bother’ me. I just choose to pass over the vast majority of them.

This is a place that enthusiasts can commiserate on the current state of the watch world. Like I said. I simply pass over them - as really have nothing to contribute. And am very well aware of what’s going on. Don’t need anyone to remind me.

Cheers.

Kind of defeats the object of a discussion forum. I mostly ignore them now. It's no bother. If trolls were choking bandwidth of putting stink on the forum, that would be another matter altogether, and I'm sure the Mods would be all over it.

If you did that there would be ZERO posts on TRF. 99% of ppl on here are new as you can see from their join date

(i.e) last 2 years and out of those new members 99% would be flippers. Just on here to find out some pricing on some models and how much they could "potentially" make.

While frustrating for sure, just skip over them. It's the state of the market and this is a Rolex forum so it's really just par for the course. People are frustrated. I've seen it first hand and it's a bummer. I have a great AD and have been lucky to get the pieces I want, even if that means waiting a year or two.

I just pass over them now but understand where people are coming from on some levels.

Yes that would be great, right now I basically treat them like spam and chose to not read...would be nice if there was an option to delete or mark a thread as spam so you don’t see it.

I get tired of my own Rolex addiction, meaning my urge to switch (flip) from model to model.

personally i get annoyed of threads that complain about other people’s threads...

Don’t like it move on, why is one persons opinion more important than the next?

I was visiting my SA at the dealer Thursday evening. I mentioned there are roughly three types of people here these days.
1. Rolex owners who can get what they want and accept the current situation as it is. I’m in this group.
2. Longtime members who have what they want and are above the fray of FOMO.
3. Those that whine incessantly because they can’t find a dealer to give them what they want on demand. They are also the conspiracy theorists who insist that the current situation must be more than the simple demand>supply issue that it is.
In general, I’m spending less time here lately because of the constant negativity.

I'm not saying someone's opinion is more important than someone else's.

Other communities have similar practices. Reddit comes to mind where they typically have a "weekly small questions thread", etc. so was curious what our community thought.

Yes - I'd totally be supportive of this. I'm getting tired of it!

SUGGESTION for MODS: Start a separate dedicated section for like minded people to go to and discuss individual shortages.

I'd like to ban threads that try to unnaturally shape the tone of the forum.

We need to ban the nicknames I don't like

We need to ban investment value threads

We need to ban calling Tudor a poor man's Rolex

We need to ban flippers

We need to ban sales tax avoidance discussion

No, we don't.

I just skip threads that I have no interest in.
I feel we are responsible for what we choose to read or contribute.

Having said that, maybe it would be good to not have these as individual threads.

They don’t bother me. I skip a lot of them, but read some occasionally. It’s the current state of things and I don’t mind hearing people discuss it when I choose to click on the thread.

The buying experience is very much a part of owning a Rolex. If it bothers you so much, here's something to consider: scroll past it. The titles don't exactly hide the fact of what the thread is about (most of the time, anyway).
