Watches of Switzerland UK New Warranty sales tactic!

Hi guys,

I was in Mayfair, London yesterday (and before anyone asks YES it is SAFE!) and I popped into Mappin & Webb after selling a watch to Watchfinder to try on a new Rolex 126233 which is likely going to be my next purchase.

Mappin and Webb are a part of the Watches of Switzerland Group and the sales lady told me that from 3rd June they are now offering an additional 5 year warranty on top of the Rolex 5 year warranty so in effect you get 10 years!

Has anyone bought a watch from the WOS group lately and benefitted from this? Are there any catches for example it needs to be serviced in the fifth year after purchase (even perhaps when it may not need one) etc.

Please let me know your thoughts! Cheers

Yes, got an OP39 in April at the Vegas Boutique. No catches. First 5 years are on Rolex, the next 5 are on them.

It only makes sense as long as they are an official AD. Otherwise there won't be a way to get any service parts from Rolex. Question is, how do they have any more stock or inventory to sell to potential clients versus any other dealer?

Hey,

Yeah it is true. I just purchased a couple of watches from goldsmith (Post coming soon, newbie to the forums!) and got the following information:

1. It is subject to standard ROLEX warranty terms meaning no external servicing etc

2. It is only available to those who are Uk residents so technically not for tourists. However, they don’t follow it so strictly as they allowed me to get the added warranty even though I claimed tax free (confirming I don’t live in the UK).

However I must mention my wife is British and I gave her address. Note- a tourist on the next table was purchasing a watch and was actually told they would not get the extra 5 years. I guess just depends on the salesman as well and like I said I had a Uk address I could use.

Watches which have the extended warranty come with an information card. Posted the picture here if you find it helpful. The card is generic though and doesn’t have any of the watch details, but the guy told me it’s attached to the serial number.

Sorry didn’t post the picture. Apologies still figuring out how to use the forum.

Also just realised on the back of the terms it says non transferable so I guess this means if you sell it or give it away, and they didn’t use your name it would not be covered (the extra 5 years)

Watches of Switzerland UK New Warranty sales tactic!

I got the same 10yr warranty on my sub from Mayors in Florida in 2016 before the Rolex craziness.

Even got a discount. Lol.

I was wondering if you are now in the 7th year, for example, and the watch is now keeping poor time, like losing 15 seconds per day is that covered under the warranty or will they call that normal wear and tear? It seems, as stated, it is at their discretion. They could claim that a watch needs service every 5 years, so the regulation would not be covered. Just wondering.

Thanks for the reply guys. Sounds like it’s a genuine decent tactic to buy with WOS group if they’re going to abide by the Rolex initial 5 year terms and conditions.

Now the only problem I have is my usual AD (Stratford Westfield Fraser Hart) is expecting me to buy from them but I don’t think they do the extended warranty and it seems that they get less stock than WOS group generally so perhaps it’s worth building a relationship with WOS group and benefiting from the extended warranty.

Does anyone know if this is still the case, as I bought my Rolex from Goldsmiths yesterday and was not given the additional 5 years guarantee.

Wish I'd seen this thread before hand, as I would have asked.

This is not new, Dealers have been doing this for years.

It is not a "Rolex" warranty, it is a Dealer extension and will only cover proven manufacturing defects, repaired by the Dealer, not Rolex.

If your watch breaks at 6 years and it is from normal wear or damage it is not a warranty fix.

Ben Bridge would hand out these extended warranties like candy, all you had to do was ask. They are pretty sure that you will find all of the manufacturing defects in the original timeframe.

They are not transferrable. If you are not the original purchaser, and they have those records, it is not covered.

Still, it is a decent selling tactic.

It's great as long as they are still in business when you need them 5+ year out! As we have seen over and over again, many name-brand stores and chains have gone out of business for a variety of reasons, some of their own making and some not. As long as you are not paying for it, it certainly is a win!

OK, it just occurred to me that some people may not get the humor intended in my previous post. I'm not trolling, I really do understand that Rolex makes only automatic watches these days.

Ahhhh, ya see when WoS purchased the Mayors chain of stores a few years back, Mayors already had the 5-year additional warranty plan going. So it looks like the entire WoS Group has officially adopted the Mayors initiative of adding 5 more years to the warranty.

Sweeeeeet!

All this confirms my intuition after the Rolex CPO (timing).
Namely, that signals have been going up for a while, and they are not good.
Rolex (will never let the price of its watches fall too far beyond the retail price) absolutely wants to mitigate the decline with its CPO (I'm not going to dwell on the financial mechanism and brand policy) and other houses are also firing their cartridges.
It is obvious that WoS obtained the agreement or an opinion from Rolex.

So it smells bad, the sea is receding! Yes!!

I see at as a way to ensure confidence in Rolex and their value, hopes to thwart the sale of stolen timepieces, and provide assurance of a factory warranty.

But am sure the Greys and video alarmists love anything that gets clicks. Rolex will be around long after we're all worm food, while Rolex continues supporting human endeavors. I'd be willing to bet many dealers globally have accepted this new CPO program.
