Dropped 16570 on to tile ... help please
Hi guys,
So after many years of wearing and collecting Rolex, it finally happened, my explorer 2 16570 took what I perceived as a nasty fall in a lapse in concentration. To make matters worse it dropped on to tile, my heart shattered into a million pieces just watching it happen, particularly as I’m so careful with all my pieces. The potential good news is that apart from a small but fair dint on one link, everything else seems completely fine, not another scratch on it. I wanted to tap into some knowledge here and ask whether it’s advisable for me to take it in for an inspection to make sure internals are ok? As it’s only been roughly 12 hours since it fell it’s hard to say, as the watch seems to be running completely fine at this stage, doesn’t seem to be making any strange noises either. I’m always confident that Rolex are built to last but I can’t help but be bugged by the thought that something may be wrong. Or Am I just being over protective ? Any help is much appreciated cheers guys! |

No reason to take it in if it is still working as well as it was before.
Modern watches are fitted with shock systems to avoid serious damage with hard knocks. Bent or broken parts will usually result in noticeable time keeping issues. Of course, it you did take it in, it would cost hundreds of dollars for somebody to take it apart to assess if any of the parts are out of tolerance.

Sounds like it hit bracelet first from your description of the superficial damage.

If I remember correctly, Rolex tests their watches with the test-equivalent of a 48" drop.
Please correct me if I am in error.

I hear you OP; I dropped my Sub yesterday and dented the top right lug quite a bit. It’s still working fine! I’m just happy the crystal didn’t shatter!
It’s amazing they can take such a nasty shock and keep ticking. I dropped a Tag once and the outcome wasn’t as good… date wheel got stuck.

Thanks for all the responses guys, feeling much more reassured.
I still cannot believe it happened but I’ve been closely monitoring since and time keeping seems identical to me so looks like we may be good to go. Unless anything changes I’ll avoid a costly service/inspection for now. I’ve always justified the odd knock here and there of my watches as a cost of doing business type deal, we’re here to enjoy them not be precious (unless it’s a JLC?) and I guess this is one of those times too. Thanks again everyone! |

Sounds like it’s ok ... definitely could’ve shattered the crystal or dented the case or a lug ... that would’ve been a shame.

Very shockproof. I do a lot of clay target shooting with my watch on, never had a problem, always runs like a.....Swiss watch.

I think if it's running fine and you don't notice anything abnormal, you're good. Don't sweat it too much. I beat on mine all the time. Welcome to the club.
