Do you mean the quickest hour function? That was introduced on the GMT Master II. Or the bezel has always been bi-directional.

Yes the GMT bezel has always been bi directional. 4 digits had a friction bezel. 5 digits had 120 click. 6 digits have 24 click.

Any reason you want it uni?

For a 5 digit GMT you can. Just replace the click spring with a sub click spring and it'll be uni directional.

Strange question, but yes, the GMT has always been bi-directional, ever since it came out in 1954.

Is somebody trying to sell you one that's uni-directional?

Yup, the only difference is the end of the click spring is bent to allow the bezel to move in both direction while the sub spring is just straight.

That's a great and informative illustration, Sean!

Thanks. Often wondered what the difference was to achieve bi/uni.

can't take credit for the pic, just my googling skills

and for anyone who finds this thread in the future the image only holds true for 5 digit bezels. The newer watches have some ball bearings involved.

Here's a shot of the 6 digit GMT bezel assembly

The bezel came off my GMT 16713 a couple of years ago, lucky I saw the bezel fly off, but the click spring was gone.

I took it to a local jeweller and asked if they could refit the bezel.

I received it back a couple of day latter all sorted.

Only after reading this thread, I've realised its Unidirectional now, guess they used the click spring from a Sub.

Feel a bit of an idiot for not noticing, still it will get sorted next time is serviced.
