AP demand increasing

I see a new trend unfolding. Looks like people are making the jump to AP for a $15k piece. Make sense too. Why overpay for a BLNR when an AP is in the same range.

The Royal Oak has been commanding above MSRP for a while now. Especially the 15202.

Can you clarify which 15k AP piece you are referring to?

My Rolex AD mentioned that the direct alternative to Rolex is AP. So it’s not unreasonable to see people making a shift and buying a watch they can actually get while they wait for their Rolex to arrive.

Not many APs available for 15k. The base 15500 is 20k plus tax and those aren’t even available to newcomers. Most will need to buy an offshore or ROC and spend low to mid 20s.

Diver would be the best choice I guess if you’re trying to keep it under 20.

The point is why spend (ok $17.5k not $15k) on a Rolex sports watch which is double the MSRP when you can get an AP

that sounds like someone with money burning a hole in their pocket. I would never buy a watch i didn't want anyway.

what's the difference between that and accepting an AD bundle?

i just dont think someone is going to settle with that kind of money involved. maybe they do but IMO they are completely different brands and not interchangeable. If you want an AP you are getting an AP, if you want a Rolex you are getting a Rolex

i get the point where the AP is a better value proposition. retail/close to retail vs huge premium, but you also have to want one

As others have pointed out, 15k USD is not realistic. 20-25k USD for quality 15300, 15400 and 15500 with blue dial versions of all three even higher.

But I agree, I think many people realize that at the current cost of Rolex other options are there, for both a little and a lot more.

I noticed this also and kicking myself for not picking up a very nice example several months ago.

I would rather pay for a Vacheron Overseas or an AP RO for the prices for any stainless Rolex sports model, regardless of which Daytona or GMT.

Personally my 15500 made me not care for many Rolex any more. They just aren’t finished to the same quality imo that’s a hugely personal thing though.

i went to the nyc boutique a week ago and they aren't even taking any names for the waitlist for the 15450 until january lol, for all dials not just blue, and its been branded as a "ladies" watch by AP now. no one's getting an AP for 15k nowadays

The 15500 is listed at $19,200 MSRP and selling at $10-$15K more by greys.

It’s true my buddy was envious when he saw my 15500 from Vegas boutique and went in cash in hand to deposit and was told no chance

Got an AP last month for a change. It can be a nice direction but there aren’t really any other options aside from an RO.

Not so for the black and grey 15500. Right now they are between 2-4K above MSRP+tax. For 10-15k, you must referring to the Blue 15500.

Right, blue. There's grey BNIB listed for $24250 on here.

AP is a great alternative to Rolex, but there still is a gap in pricing between AP and Rolex. However it isn’t overwhelmingly large if you’re looking at grey prices for BLRO or Daytona C.

If you want a mint complete 15300 or 15400 or new 15500 it's 25k USD. Still worth it in my opinion.

I can agree with this. Personally I gave up on Rolex. I love the watches, the Daytona is a great looking watch, but it does not look like a 25k watch.

You can get a 42MM ROO or a diver for 12-15k.

I think the topic is also collectors being frustrated with Rolex at such an inflated premium while although still at a premium AP seems more tangible these days. Walk into any Rolex store and it’s 4 ladies watches with flowers on the dial, maybe a convo about waiting lists and no chance to buy anything you actually want. Ap has always been respected and is becoming more and more of an appealing option to Rolex collectors.
