Tudor Bigblock NOS 79170

I've been on the hunt for about 6-9 months now for a Tudor chrono 79170.
Once you see Dan's, you get hooked right away. Since I already have a black
face GMT IIC, I thought a silver dialed one would be a better fit.
So after doing tons of research, reading, going over the Tudor serial # project,
I notice I like the early version of the dial with T swiss T, and the chafered stick markers.
Well it seems I've stumbled across one (here in Canada even) with all the traits I'm looking for, box and papers no less. The only problem is, it is NOS. Never worn, absolutley brand spanking new, made in '89. I was just looking to find something nice, maybe with papers would be a plus. I almost think it would be a shame to mess it up and wear it. What do you think? LOL
Anyways it's on hold, need to think about it,and raise some more dough, being that it's NOS.
Here's some pics.

And just to make me drool even more, he has a NOS black face '83 Snowflake
to boot. It's a beauty. Price back then $270.

Take care and I'll keep you informed.

Jeff,
I'd be all over that like a cheap suit. The silver dial is stunning and it will only go up in value [once the economy comes back]. But that's not the reason to buy it. The most important reason it because it looks so good on your wrist. It's got it all. Hope you snag that rare Tudor.

Go for it.
Don't worry about wearing it.
It will probably (you'll have to try hard not to wear it) get less wrist time than it would have done if you bought it new in 89 anyway and beeing an enthusiast you'll baby it , so it won't get battered will it.
All of them are new at some point so go for it.
The opportunity to be the first to wear a vintage watch would be too good an opportunity for me to pass on

If you don't get it I think you'll regret it for a long time. It is an awesome piece.

My thoughts exactly. I know in my heart that I just have too, and will pull the trigger. Not too many times a 20 year NOS watch comes around.

That watch looks like an excellent piece. Owning a 79180, I can appreciate the 79170 a lot, the more I look at the 70 I wish I had got that rather than the 80.

This watch has a fantastic movement, and the big block oyster case is incredible. The only thing is, I would wear this watch and I don't know if you are getting it to be a safe queen or not.

That huge Rolex "Big Block" Oyster case is a sight to behold. As others have said this watch would be one in a rotation. Wear it lovingly and you can have the best of both worlds. It's meant to be enjoyed and once worn you just might find it hard to remove.

If and when I get it, I will wear it, just sparingly, in rotation with my GMT
The collector who has it, is the safe queen. Me on the other hand will just
take good care of it.

Although I have never seen this box before either, the beautiful watch itself is the most important which my focus was drawn to .....

Nice Chrono The box is legit Tudor, but not for the Chrono model, especially one with USA papers.

I did buy it.

Really never wore it, and sold it awhile ago to fund a vintage piece.

Jeff,

If it is in this universe with respect to price, jump all over it and don't look back.

I do know what you mean I like a watch that has is clean, but worn. I'm not wild about the responsibility of a watch that is 100% condition. That said, I could live with it. Particularly, that watch.

I bought one like Dan's black face Tiger about two years ago before I was really very familiar with the model. I changed the band to a new origial one and I am so glad that I did not wait to learn too much about it or it would have disappeared and I would have paid much more to find another. To get NOS is a rare opportunity. I would wear it carefully. That is the beauty of having several watches. You do not have to much stress on the appearance if it is a 10%er in terms wrist time. I wore my first TT SUB for 15 years before I started adding other watches. Best of luck. --Buy it

I got this 79270 NOS back in August 2009. Love it.
