Cellini Discount?
Gents,
I am visiting an out of town AD and of course there are no steel sports models. Although I’m good on those. I’ve been on the hunt for a dress watch, but not a Cellini....until I saw them today. I have to say they are very nice in person. Checks a lot of boxes. I was offered 10% off. Does that sound reasonable? Thanks for your input. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

$13.5k isn't terrible.
Personally, if I was looking to get a Cellini, I'd get one used for a few thousand less. But a Cellini in that ballpark isn't a bad buy. |

Often thought they were kind of gorgeous but I don't believe they sell all that well and perhaps you can get more than 10% off.

For ~11.5 you can get a pre-loved Lange Saxonia Ultrathin. For ~16K you can get a Patek. Are you really set on Rolex?

I would ask for more of a discount than 10%. And, agree with the above. 11.5 for the ALS Saxonia is where I’d allocate $10-14k on a dress watch towards.

I’ve been pondering about a dress watch for well over a year now. I’ve had it down to the Lange Saxonia Thin, Vacheron 56, something from the JLC Master Control line, Omega DeVille Tresor or even the Breitling Prestige.
Removed the Omega and the Breitling from consideration today. Saw them in person and was pretty underwhelmed. I love the JLC’s. I’ve yet to see the Lange or Vacheron in person. But seeing the Cellini in person absolutely put it high on my list. It checked a lot of boxes for me. Precious metal, no date, clean design and the size seemed spot on. Seems like most dress watches are too big (40+) or possibly too small (35 to 37). 39 looked really right. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Had the same thought earlier this year - the Cellini line is very nice and deserves more attention. But agree with others that pre-owned is a better value, esp when considering other brands. Ended up choosing the Moser Venturer Small Seconds rose gold with silver dial and really love it. 39mm but has presence with small bezel and clean dial. Pre-owned but in great condition was well under 10K. Nice change of pace from sport watches, even when casually dressed. Not gonna go wrong with Cellini or other names suggested.

That’s kind of what I was thinking. My local AD doesn’t carry the Cellini line, but they said they could source one. I wonder if I might do better or worse on a discount on a special order? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

It’s a very clean design. Federer is currently rocking the Cellini Moonphase during the U.S. Open. One very good looking watch!

Most likely worse. You’re much more likely to get a deal on unsold stock. That’s been my experience with everything from electric guitars to watches. I did get a nice discount on a special order custom ESP guitar but I knew the manager at Sam Ash.

This muddies the water for Cellini. It's a high quality watch for the money as well as IMO a beautiful piece. However for 11.5 that ALS is really difficult to overlook, and then you have the Calatrava for 16-17.

I really need to see the ALS in person. 37 and very thin seems possibly too small. I’m sure it’s not, but in my mind it seems small. 39 and a little thicker seemed really perfect. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I think you’re probably right. I feel like this one has been sitting there a long time. I guess it can’t hurt to push a better deal and see if they go for it. I think with respect to guitars you almost have to have the hook up at Sam Ash. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

They would LOVE for you to take it for 10% off. If they offered 10 you could definitely get 20. They want to sell it to you more than you want it, trust me. |

I agree in that the Cellini will definitely have more substance than the ALS. That would be a strong point for me as well. The ALS is more limited to dress whereas the Cellini can dress up or down much easier.

That’s a great point and that makes it a heavy lean Rolex. I dress smart casual most of the time.

Underreported story....I’ve been thinking white gold all along, but after seeing the Cellini in rose gold, wow. Jeez I guess this is why everybody advises you see a watch in person before pulling the trigger.
To be fair, not seeing all the models on my list is precisely why I haven’t pulled the trigger yet. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Every time I visit the Rolex boutique near Shinjuku Station, I go straight to the Cellini display case. Something has changed in the Cellini line and I can't quit admiring the change.

A vintage Calatrava would be cheaper and have a lot more character...

I feel like the hands are 20% too short so I would want 20% off.
If you like the watch, go for it, but I wouldn't settle at only 10% personally. |

I thought that at first too, but I read where it was by design because the minute track is inboard a bit. Come to think of it, the Cellini has the same movement as the Explorer. Maybe the hands are leftover from the 36mm Cellini....like when the Explorer went from 36 to 39. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Thanks for sharing Otto. I understand what you’re saying. I think Rolex has quietly really made this line competitive. They’re somewhat a victim of their sports model’s success. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I would ask for at least 20% off since this is not a popular model.

I too was looking at the same watches being mentioned, really liked the Cellini but ultimately went with this:
