Ceramic diver!

Anyone think AP will come back to it? Maybe never? lol. Any guesses or opinions? Thanks in advance.

I would not be shocked if AP came out with a Diver with a ceramic bezel.

I’ve said it before and will say it again, if this one had a ceramic bezel, I would have bought it in a heartbeat

That would be money! Wonder what their rationale was for not continuing with it.

It would be a welcome addition. I would personally prefer a Ti case and ceramic bezel. Similar to a 44ti color way.

Sometimes I stay up at night wondering why the hell they discontinued those ceramic divers. I would love to have one as a daily.

They seem to be doing more ceramics these days.. White and black ceramic PC and the black ceramic tourbillon. And with rumors going around they are going to update the current diver, im sure we will see some new color schemes and models and perhaps eventually ceramics.

Does anyone know if the ceramic divers' value is going up? Maybe AP discontinued it because of poor sales?

I'm doubtful that sales were slow (or poor) at the time. I only saw them on display for one visit to the NY boutique.
They made relatively few of them - and were sold in a short window of time. I dont think production run exceeded much more than a year for either the black or white ceramic divers

Maybe the decision to discontinued was due to difficulty of production? But I guess that made little sense as AP is the best in ceramic

It was discontinued to limit production. It was one of the early "boutique only" references and they wanted to protect its value to some degree would be my guess or at least enforce the idea that buying from the boutique has its perks.

That made a lot of sense as I only ever see 1 other person wearing the ceramic diver

My collection of 2 favourite AP Ceramic Divers....

Recalled someone mentioned the black ceramic has less than 500, but no idea is there any truth to it.

Nice collection of divers.

Does anyone have ceramic diver without the vertical brushing on bezel.
I’ve been offered very low number ( under 20 ) and I series no around 1000 mark.
It doesn’t have the preferred vertical brushing but it’s in new condition and having missed out twice to buy at new I’m thinking of pulling the trigger.
My rational being not sure if find another again also probably be rare feature as most roo in ceramic have vertical brushing.

Thanks

Not an expert but I want to say the vertical brushing is factory finish... so if it doesn’t have that I personally wouldn’t touch it

Definitely try to source one with the vertical brushing pattern. It's one of the main factors which distinguish AP's mastery in finishing ceramic. Very special...

Wow what a great shot

I think AP outsources the ceramic casework though unless I am mistaken. Still, damn it looks good and feels great knowing you don't have to worry about brushing it on a wooden door Frame or sleeve. Makes me miss the diver c

Hey Tom, great info on the outsourcing of the ceramic finishing by AP, I never knew that. The end product is truly amazing.

Thanks!

That sounds strange to me but possible I guess. Mine is from mid 2013, which I believe was the first year it was sold and it has the vertical brushing on the bezel.

The earlier releases of the Ceramic Divers have flat/matt finishing on bezel. Later ones have vertical line finishing. Will definitely prefer the latter.

As for why it has been discontinued, I guess it's because the manufacturing of the ceramic parts in AP are outsourced since it needs special tools to achieve that level of finishing, so there is limited production capacity. AP choose to focus on higher return refs like the C44 and later on the ceramic perpetual so the C-Diver was sacrificed.

Does anyone happen to know...

I think you can get a ceramic bezel replacement on the Grand Prix...whenever i’ve seen pics of those watches, the ceramic bezels only ever have a flat finish.

Is that because AP will only replace the GP carbon bezel with flat ceramic? Or just the point in time that those GP bezels were replaced with ceramic

My GP has early ceramic bezel replacement. It has fine brushing on top of bezel. Not as pronounced as ceramic diver.

Interesting tidbit, didn’t know early ones actually have matte finishing. I’ve seen pics where it looks matte but I always attributed to bad lighting. I know when I photograph my own watch you do need the right lighting and angle to make the vertical brushing pop.

Seems odd that they would have different finishing given the limited number of these and short production runs. Would make more sense if they were produced over 5 years or something.

Agree with this. Anyone with Picts of early ones with matte finish on bezels?

My black ceramic diver is in very low 600’s so they made at least that many unless they skipped numbers.

I think both white and black ceramic would have production number of more 600.
I looking at ceramic diver this week and will report back.
Been offered very good price for my 44 Ceramic which got tired off ( 2017 blue and gold ) and 44 Ceramic is a watch I should be able to pick with ease later if I change my mind again

Mine slightly out of focus says hi. Been enduring a week in the sun and plenty of salt water, as designed for :)
