Explorer I Mk I to Mk II

I have an Explorer Mk I and I’d like to upgrade to Mk II.

Would Rolex swap out the dial hands if I asked very nicely? Or is there anyone who would do it outside or Rolex?

OP is asking Mark I to Mark II Dial. Not Exp I to Exp 2.

I read it somewhere you can get this done through Rolex.
It think the cost was about $800 but they get to keep the old parts.
Do they service the watch while swapping out parts? not sure, it be totally worth it if so.

I have actually heard people doing this. I think Rolex will swap out the parts but they will keep the original parts.

Yes, Rolex will do this, at least in Canada. They swap the dial and hands together.

I don't believe it's an upgrade :)

Would also consider resale value of having a changed dial and no original parts - but maybe you don't plan to part with it ever?

They both have the same reference number therefore Rolex should have no problem with either set of hands/dail. I heard of people getting hand swapped when the 'updated' Explorer first came out. Why don't you call an RSC and ask them what it would cost. If it is part of a service it may not cost more than the service itself. If it is not part of a service they will probably charge you for a service... so it may be the same cost either way.

Stick with the mk1 or sell your mk1 and buy a mk2 if you’re that bothered.

Oh! Interesting. What’s the difference between an Explorer 1 Mark 1 dial/hands and Mark 2 dial:hands?

Mk 2 has longer minute hand. Also the 3,6,9 is lumed on the mk 2 but on mk1 they’re white gold

As mentioned above. They were updated around 2/3 years ago.

I had this done to mine at an AD in Montreal last Fall, cost $850 which included a (requested) LIGHT polish. They change the dial AND hands, you can't pick and choose, and it took about 3-4 months as the AD must first send back the Mk1 parts for exchange.

Glad I did it tho'.

PS from what I understand they do the swap automatically during a major service, seems they want to get the Mk1's out of circulation.

This is what I did to get a Mark 2! I do like the Mark 2 better.

I always wondered why they did this.

Just buy a mk2, you will regret selling the mk1, and if you trade you will get burned coming and going.

If you plan to keep it, do it.

If you plan to sell, don't.
