My BLNR broke!

I’ve owned my Batman for a little over two years now and have loved every minute with it. Unfortunately, while I was winding the crown to get the watch ticking after it sat for a few days, I noticed midway through that the crown resistance disappeared completely. I couldn’t detect any gears moving as I wound the crown clockwise (the way I’ve always wound it), but did notice some resistance and gear movement when I wound it counter clockwise.

I’ve never had an issue with the watch, and it’s most definitely still within the five year warranty, so I took it to my AD and they sent it in to the Rolex service center. They told me it would be about four weeks until I get it back

Anyone had a similar issue?

It happens. It’ll come back good as new.

That's unfortunate. I have had mine for about 6 years and no issues. I am sure it will come back good as new.

I know the feeling. I apparently broke the mainspring on a ~20 year old Datejust and then felt no resistance. I thought that Rolexes and other watches had a clutch to prevent over winding. Or it may have just been metal fatigue. But it does, based on my experience, sound like the mainspring needs to replaced. Rolex will want to do a full service to ensure something else isn’t going on or that a tiny shred of metal isn’t wandering around in there. Nice looking watch BTW.

That’s gotta be frustrating OP. Hopefully you have another watch to enjoy while you wait for the BLNR to return.

Thanks guys. Not really worried or bummed about it, more surprised I guess based on how bulletproof these movements supposedly are. Was more curious if anyone had experienced the same type of failure. Assuming everything comes back good as new, I’m looking at this as a free service!

116710 is known to have defective hour wheel click spring, but sounds like yours is having a different problem.

That’s what happens when you leave the stickers on your watch.

3135 ...have a few watches with the movement .After many years, all extremely accurate and never been serviced .Smooth winding movement as well.

3235 ...is it really as robust ,accurate and hassle free ,compared to the 3135 ?? Winding the 3235 also feels different from the 3135 .

My BLNR broke. Slightly different to yours.
It was out of warranty, but fixed quickly by a local independent.

Stickers came off 3 minutes after I purchased it! Guess I included a picture of the watch before I handed over my CC.

RSC will demand full service, parts broken , and then giving it a “goof “ polishing. Charge you a lot and it will never be like it was out of the box

Warranty repair never includes polishing.

Likely a broken mainspring and this can happen on a new or very old watch. It is made of spring steel and it can break at any time without warning.

Probably because you wore it for two years with stickers on it.

1. Gross.
2. I wouldn't worry too much. Happens sometimes. It will be back before you know it.

Sorry, I had to. Post it made it seem like that was a recent shot.

Final update. It took about a month and a half but the watch is back and seems good as new. I guess the only good that came of this was a cool Rolex travel pouch that I got to keep!
