Everest Band

I already had this on order before my watch arrived. While I like the SS band, I wanted to mix it up a bit. Really enjoying this band.

The only negative. I found a local jeweler (I've dealt with them before) that is an Everest dealer. They offered to put the band on for me and left (4) little scratches on the back side of the case. I guess when they were trying to pull the pins out. I'm going to order my own toolkit, so I can do this in the future. Not the end of the world, but I figured they could get the darn band off without marring up my watch.

I like that. I have the same strap on my 16600.

I've had the same problem twice now, when I specifically went to a watchmaker instead of doing it myself just to be absolutely sure the watch didn't get scratched. My pristine, unworn BLNR was one of the victims, *sigh*.

I think it's just a "watchmaker culture" thing to decide that scratches on the back of lugs are irrelevant and not to be given a second thought. Obviously, they could have taped the lugs, or just been extra careful, but they didn't because they didn't view potential scratches as something to care about.

I suppose the lesson here is that you actually need to say, "I know how to do this, but I'm letting you do it because it's important to me that the watch not get scratched." Otherwise, there's a chance the watchmaker will just assume that scratches don't matter.

Agreed. For now on, i'll just do it myself. At least if it's scratched, it's on me. The first sign was when he walked back out with my watch about 2 minutes later with the new band on

That’s why i do it myself. I always duct tape the lugs and anything that could be scratched and always take plenty of time (step back every few seconds) because I don’t want any unnecessary scratches on my watch. I don’t mind scratches from wearing my watch, but not from someone else who doesn’t care as much about my watches as I do.

It’s better to learn to do it yourself anyway, because you will want to switch it back and forth every now and then, you don’t want to have to walk into a jewellers store every-time you want to change it (back).

That sucks about the scratches! That would definitely annoy me. Are they on the back of the case or the sides? I can’t really imagine how they’d scratch the sides. Got any pics?

Looks fantastic otherwise!

Like I said, not the end of the world, but I bet if it was his watch, he'd taken a little more time. I'm sure i'll put my own 'character' on the watch before too long! lol

That’s just impatience and carelessness. I wouldn’t go back to that store.

It’s probably not from taking off the old bracelet but from trying to squeeze in the new one with a small screw driver instead of a proper tool.

Looks great!

Here's mine. I treated it with some mink oil to keep it waterproof and darken it some.

Just someone who didn't care about your watch. If it was theirs, then I'm sure they would have been more careful. Not difficult to do, watch a youtube vid and take your time, plus get the right tools.

Exactly. It just pisses me off thinking about it, so I’m trying to chalk it up as a lesson learned. You’d think people would consider, “hey this is a pretty nice watch, without a scratch on it, maybe I won’t be a dip$hit.” But,, they don’t.

At least it’s on the underside.

Nice! That black one caught my eye. Might be on my short list!

Hadn’t considered leather oil, but that’s a good call.

Whether it's carelessness or incompetence I've had nothing but bad luck with any "professional" assistance with bracelet adjustments. If you are OCD or love treating your watches well then just invest in some good tools and do it best on your own. With great advice from friends here of course!

Yes about the impatience and carelessness, no about The screwdriver. It’s the spring bars. When you use a single fine fork tool (not the tweezers) often the first side of spring bar pops out (and back in) and the shoulder slides right along the back of the case making those exact scratches. Actually it can happen with the tweezers too, just jot as likely.

Either way it shouldn’t have happened. It’s not the end of he world but def annoying!

Thanks.

It's actually brown.

It was lighter when I bought it, but I'm not sure it was quite as light as yours.

Treating the leather makes sure that the darkening, which will occur no matter what, is even and it's impervious to spills, too.
