AD offered me a straight swap: Datejust 41mm Jubilee Black Face for my...

Yet another "would you" thread? :)

Sorry but I have lost my interest in my 1995 GMT Pepsi. I was at a local Cartier and decided to visit my Rolex AD. They had the black dial, and a white dial with a fluted bezel but I have to add a bit for the gold bezel..

If you were in my shoes, would you do it? Straight swap?

Thanks, it's just I was wearing a suit today and I felt like the Pepsi was out of place. The datejust felt more in place. I only have a four watch collection, GMT Pepsi, Blue Face Aqua Terra, TT Large Santos Cartier, SS Santos medium (wife's but get to wear it too) :)

Maybe it's just me but I feel the GMT is for more casual wear, I wear a suit to work daily.

Thank you sir. Just a little more convincing from the pros here, I will definitely not consider it anymore. But I almost did it tonight and told them give me one day to think about it.

You said so yourself op, that you no longer enjoy wearing the GMT 2. If the DJ will put a smile on your face then do it. I would haggle it down to an even trade though.

Thank you. I don't know if it makes a difference but I have a GMT 1 ref 16700, and they offered an even trade for the smooth bezel datejust 41mm.

Purchased the 16700 for around $3500 new back in 1995..

Correct it does not go with a suit, although people do wear it like that, I'll never understand why.

Get the DJ if you want, but don't trade the pepsi, even for the fluted bezel DJ. The AD is ripping you off. Dealers are only willing to make trades if it benefits them.

Good advice. I do have a coke and black insert. Do you think that the black insert goes well with a suit?

My colleague has the 16760, it’s a black/red bezel. He gets similar offers when he walks into Rolex ADs. It was passed onto him by his father and he wouldn’t trade it for the world. If the watch has no sentimental value to you and you believe you would get more enjoyment why not. It sounds like the 16700 has more meaning to you that the GMT2

Still as NO as before.

Sell the Omega and Cartier's (while you still can market is getting very soft) and put them towards the DJ.

I have a ‘92 GMT in black/red bezel. I wear it with a suit along with all my other watches. I must admit the 5 digit GMT with a suit is more subtle than the 6 digit reference GMT & Sub.

That watch is trading for about $9500-$10,000 for a full set. You are a one owner watch so you can definitely sell it on your own and haggle the price down on the DJ41. I don’t thinks it’s a good straight trade.

Wasn't the GMT originally made for people in suits driving planes?

What a load of tosh folks saying it does not go with a suit, course it goes with a suit. People wear apple watches, casios etc etc with suits these days.

Or should we all go back to gold hunters and Albert chains, with a nice fob on the end.

I would defiantly NOT do this trade. A 5 digit GMT is the mutts nuts in my view anyways. Its the classic GMT, by a long shot to me personally.

Of course it isn't my watch, so i would go with what you want to do OP.

I would sell the GMT for far more than what this AD is trying to rip you off for, and then get what you really like.

Why not just keep it and buy it outright? A 5 digit Pepsi is more desirable than a DJ.

I would not do that trade at all. If anything, it should be flat versus the fluted, and even then I'd think twice....

Lol yes... Best offer here so far is a trade for BNIB sport steel model.

Not sure about forum etiquette if it's OK to share info/offer here.

Seems like a reputable guy here though. Definitely considering in addition to offers ranging $9k-10k..

Thanks for your insight. 5 digit more suitable for formal attire due to its smaller profile overall?
