downsizing. which to let go?
First off, this is not a fs post. No PM's, they will be ignored. I already have a buyer for whatever I decide. Just looking for thoughts and opinions of my TRF friends.
So i'm downsizing. Collecting was fun, but now i'm at the point I'm good with one or two nice pieces and quite content with my non-luxury pieces. Not to mention I've found love in other brands and have grown out of rolex I guess. I have a 116710ln and a 16710 with all three inserts. Gonna let go of one but it's so hard to figure out which one. The 116710 was my entry into rolex. Love the maxi-dial and the ceramic bezel with the modern font.Love the blue lume. Cons: wish it didn't have a green gmt hand. 16710: I mean I have all three bezels, so versatile. Love the 5 digit case. I've become more of a fan of smaller style pieces. It's a classic we will never see again with the ability to change out the bezel and bracelet based on out mood. Cons: I don't like the font on the bezel inserts. The obvious answer is just keep both, and I could. But I find them redundant in a way and have a hard time justifying in my mind having all the money wrapped up in them when I should have it actually invested in something that will make me more over the years. I will be hanging on to my Bluesy for sentimental reasons, and debating on letting go of my first gen DSSD-Blue. I'm not a high roller, just a guy that has spent all of my disposable income on watches. Time to start spreading it elsewhere like trips and memories with my son, etc. Which would you part with and why? |

I would always keep the vintage, as long as you aren't too rough on your watches. It will be the best to pass to your kids IMO.

Keep the 16710. It’s a classic, super versatile, and you probably have it as your profile pic for a reason!

It’s funny, I like the bezel font on the 16710 (size and weight fits the overall ascetics much better, IMO). The current font size has kept me from pulling the trigger. Different strokes for different folks.

Sell the 116710ln to lock in profits. Also easier to obtain later on if you want to get it back.

Keep the 16710. It has better proportions (IMO) and you can swap inserts or bracelets as desired to change the look.

Keep the vintage stuff. There are a ton of GMTs on the market and eventually prices for that one will come down to where they were. They may go up and you may regret it for a while, but eventually, it'll come down to reality. There are just too many of them on the market.

Hard choice!
Both discontinued but I would keep the legendary 16710

I’d keep the 5 digit. Three different looks and it’s a classic

I can't stand that tiny crown so the 5 digit would have to go.

Have to agree, keep the 16710. For a 6 digit piece the 116710 has the best proportions so I'd have to keep that as well, too bad you dont like the green accents I always found that to be a strong point on that one. As you said if your downsizing no need for two GMTs and there are more reasons to keep the 16710, at least for me. If I had to let one of mine go I'd say bye to my Blnr before my 16710.

I’d keep the 5 Digit. And I’d let the Gen 1 DSSD go while demand is strong. Feels like the Gen 2 may have some advantages in case size and bracelet width. That’s my .02.

I would keep the 5-digit and let the newer model go.

unpopular opinion:
i just don’t like vintage watches. the modern GMT is in a few ways technically superior; i think a lot depends on how it wears for you. for me, my modern GMTs are the watches i wear most often, and due to my personal proclivities (as stated above), unless i fall into a 1675 (which i probably wouldn’t wear much) you’ll never convince me that vintage is the better looking piece. YMMV, of course.

Looks like most of us (and me) are leaning toward keeping the vintage watch. The new one can always be re-obtained if you want it again. BTDT myself.
