New Day-Date 36mm vs Day-Date 40mm

Hi all,

I am deciding between two Day-Date variants and would appreciate some input.

I have narrowed down to two WG Day-Dates (YG / RG gold appears too loud for my preference), both new models with ceramic inserts and new movement.

Unfortunately I am new here and am having trouble uploading pictures on TRF

Link to my post on Watchuseek with pictures: https://forums.watchuseek.com/f23/ne...l#post50111841

This will be my daily wearer in business settings. I am leaning towards the 36mm, being the classic size of reference, however I have some concerns about legibility (WG indices on a silver dial) and a friend mentioned that the 40mm fits better on my wrist and the dial is better proportioned. Has anyone seen the new 36mm Day-Date in WG and Silver dial?

Any thoughts are greatly appreciated!

up close wrist pictures are deceiving but i think the 36 fits you better. the 40 pretty much covers your entire wrist lug to lug

36 looks better on you. I went 40 with 7” wrists.

Ceramic inserts on a Day-Date? What are you talking about?

I went with a 118238 with 7 1/4 wrists. Suits me perfectly-just my two cents obviously.

Is there any way you could post the pictures on this forum so we don't have to click on another link?

DD40 is the way to go. Longer power reserve and I’m not sure the 36 has the new style bracelet. I used to have a 36 and traded for the 40, it’s a great watch

the power reserve is the same on the new dd36 (128238), pretty sure the bracelet is the same as the 40 also

There are ceramic inserts in the new bracelet links to prevent stretching - not bezel inserts.

36mm suits you much better. 40mm should only be considered if you have a large wrist, or you want platinum as PM.

I have a 6.75 inch wrist and have owned both a 36mm and currently own the 40mm. Both sit well on my wrist but I have zero regrets moving to the 40mm, especially as a daily wearer

40mm wears pretty small so that would be the one, sig less than the old DD2.

36mm is my choice for that style watch. I have a 7 1/2 inch wrist, and my 36mm SS DateJust is my daily wearer. It gets more wrist time than my SS submariner date.

36mm looks best. Plus it's alot cheaper. If you dont like it sell it later. Not set in stone.

It seems you like the diamond indices but have you ever checked out the DD40 with the silver quad roman dial? I know they're all tough pieces to see and compare in person.

They are both amazing watches but the 40 mm is the perfect size for most wrists. I have owned two of them, one in white gold in the other in platinum. I have also under the 36 and I felt that it was a little small. I ended up giving it to my wife. It’s the perfect size for her. I don’t think the 40 mm size is going to go away. You may think that it is big and heavy but you’ll get used to it very quickly.

40 is def a good size for most but the dd40 has a pretty fat bracelet which looks off on smaller wrists especially if the case covers the entire wrist, and the bracelet is what makes the watch anyway. imo 6.5-6.75" wrists are where it starts to look good. all personal preference though
