Depends, are you looking for something to be more under the radar? Then the JLC will probably fit that need nicely. Would go great with a suit or nice jacket, classy. The Rolex will certainly get noticed more, that being said the DJ is an all-time classic and tends to fly pretty low key. I wear mine for more conservative work related attire and never got noticed (or at least commented on which is good).
Curiously, why ditch the Panerai? How did you like the Due? |

Jaeger is much more appropriate for dress attire. Also, the movement is beautiful with a pink gold skeletonized rotor, blued screws. It’s really up there in terms of finishing.
Personally like both but Rolex DJ may also attract a kind of attention you may not want in a work environment. |

Formal is on leather, but I'd pick the DJ

You said "formal dress watch" in your post. Clearly the Jaeger is the more formal of the two and a true dress watch is supposed to be on leather. Love both but to my eyes the Jaeger is easily the dressier of the two.

Interesting, I always get hate when I say a Sub shouldn't be a dress watch.

I say get them both and rotate. Totally different looks both can be dressed up with a suit or worn with much more casual looks. Love em both but if picking one would pick the DJ.
Ps the JLC probably rounds out your collection a little better if that’s your sort of thing. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

There's still a 'dress' watch category?
Dump the PAM if you like but don't buy something because it's labelled as appropriate. If you want eh JLC, grab it. Its a nice watch. But also think about a beautiful brown leather belt on that DJ and see what happens. Or a matte green one on the SubDate. |

Yes there definitely is. Some might wear Chuck Taylors with a tux, but it still looks, at best, unrefined (I'm not saying you would). Some people embrace informality when they can. Others don't. Neither are wrong, but people will notice. That may or may not matter to you.
OP, regardless of your other choices here, the JLC Ultra Thin should be in every complete collection. The model you posted is a fantastic one. Best of luck!
