results of pressure test, authenticity, concern?
took advice of forum members and had mayors inspect my preowned gmt, yr appx 2000 mostly to authenticate. He said pressure test was fine condition excellent, but it needs svc which i knew. however, he said the pepsi bezel is not original, it was swapped from black to pepsi. The face of the gmt is blk, that's how he knew. Should I be concerned about this? he said no big deal and doesn't really hurt value, but that he wanted me to know bezel was not original. Otherwise, he said excellent watch.

the face is black? how was he able to tell from looking at just the face? im assuming this is 16710 model. i think the only way you can absolutely know is by the serial number on the case.
as long as the pepsi bezel that was put on the watch is authentic rolex and not an aftermarket, it should be fine |

Bezels are pretty easy to switch from what I understand so I don't think I'd worry too much. I've heard of people having more than one bezel for the same watch and switching them out for variety, kinda like switching straps.
If it bothers you, buy a black bezel as a spare. Jeannie Last edited by GinGinD; 10 March 2009 at 07:34 AM.. Reason: typo |

It may be possible that the bezel was changed along the way some-time.. Changing bezels is very common and they are considered expendible on the 16710 etc.. An original, period correct, insert would be very common on a GMT that is only 8 years old though..
However, I don't think that your jeweler can tell you whether the watch came with a black insert or a Pepsi just by looking at the dial.. He would need the original paperwork and invoice. As far as I know, the watches are identical except for whichever insert was ordered...

Your comments are making me feel better. I just called the seller, since i have not fully paid for the watch and he said he never changed the face and he bought it from a authorized dealer. He was a little upset, not at me, but at the suggestion by Mayors that the bezel had been changed. He believes teh mayors guy is mistaken b/c he purchased it brand new exactly as it is. He didn't even know bezels could be changed. from what you folks are saying, the mayors guy could not have been able to determine the color of the bezel based on this watch having a black face.
Anyway, besides that, the watch band i would rate a 8 but the crystal and bezel a 9.5, so the sellers rating of the watch being a 9 is about right. It looks outstanding other than having a few scratches on the band. thx for the quick feedback. |

Could be your guy at Mayors was hoping to hook you in on the sale of a new bezel.
