All RSCs created equal?
First time needing to send my Datejust out for service. Is it true that I'd be better dealing directly with an RSC v. AD, even a long time established one?
I remember reading here once how folks like the RSC in Dallas. However, I live in Boston Area and RSC NY makes more sense. Does it matter? |

I’m in the Boston area as well and just sent 2 in for service. Local ADs here now send all watches to PA unless it’s for warranty work, then it goes to NY.
My AD is a authorized service provider, but they gave me a choice and I opted for them sending it to PA... |

Most or majority of the recommendations I read here on TRF suggest skipping the AD and calling Dallas yourself and they will send you a shipping box, insured with instructions.. If you do it yourself you will also be in communication with them. If you go through your AD then they will be the only ones who will be able to speak with RSC. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong as I've never done this personally.

Two problems with AD's.
1. If they do the work, they are the warranty, and some send the work out to local independents that you cannot check out. 2. If you let the AD send it to an RSC, then RSC only deals with the AD and you are not in the loop.

For routine servicing the two major US ones (Dallas/NY) both do a great job. Policy stuff can vary significantly and experience can even vary depending on who picks up the phone.

With regard to number 2. Is this something new? I had my AD send my 1601 to RSC and the manager from Dallas called me with details of the service as they would not proceed if I declined to change the hands which were corroded. This was 6 years ago though. Also, isn’t the service still warrantied by Rolex universally if the AD has a Rolex watchmaker on staff? I suppose I could just clarify this with my AD |
