Interesting feedback from AD about SS sports

seems that there is definitely a larger delivery of the BLNR and possibly not as extreme of a demand, which would explain the grey prices on this watch right now. Obviously its still much higher than retail but it definitely did not seem like he would have an issue allocating one. He also confirmed that they do receive 1-2 daytonas, 2-3 pepsi's and 3 or so subs (date/no date) each month. Whether they get grabbed by upper management before they hit his invoice slip is a different story, but the point is, the watches ARE getting delivered.

oh yeah, i mean its silly to think all of these stores are paying their overhead with zero product being shipped. The stuff on display is the stuff you are supposed to buy to get to the good stuff in the back. Years ago those watches sat unsold taking up space but now pairing the undesirable to the desirable means that shops are doing better than ever and all product moves as if its desired.

I have not been able to buy a Rolex from any AD in the past 18 months. The last AD purchase was in 2016. There just isn’t enough inventory. They all have the same story. But your AD is getting 12 SS Daytona’s a year? That’s serious allocation. Most
AD’s are getting 2-3 a year. One AD I spoke to has not seen an SS Daytona since February of 2019, the other, not since December 2018.

Can you trust them? Are they saying that just so you don't get mad at them for not acquiring you a piece that you want?

I'm sure their all in the safe. After a few purchases a year ago my AD offered me a Blnr (oyster) which I never asked for but said yes to and I had it a few days later. He stated later that management had a talk on who to offer it to. I never felt like any type of VIP, we just got along well and i only had a purchase history of 3 ss sports models prior, all with discounts. I also asked if he gets any Blro's and I got a quick reply > Oh yes.. The display cases are empty now all the time but their in stock..

You must have a very small dealer or they're embellishing the truth. See my recent incoming thread, my dealer will deliver around 30 Daytonas this year and has sold over 50 BLRO's since June of last year. I got one of each.

OP is in Los Angeles ... I’m guessing there are some “higher volume” ADs.

My AD received 5 Pepsi last month. It seems like production has been increased!

Honestly? No I don’t trust anything they say anymore. You may be right. But I am talking to a few AD’s and check in everywhere I go.

I think you are right, some stock in being held in the safe for prior customers. But some are also gray dealers. So I am sure there is “special” inventory but not for walk-in customers

The AD’s message of ‘we only get 1 or 2 a year’ is their way of not telling you ‘actually we get these watches, but we decided not to sell them to you’.

That’s all.

In other words, it’s not the AD’s lack of inventory, it’s your status as a non-valued customer. That’s what they’re saying.

If I was an AD and I had spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on very expensive floor space and displays I would expect more than a few watches a month from the manufacturer. I would suspect that any retail location in a major metro area would need to sell 15-20 watches a month to make any money assuming they make around 40% margin on each watch. Assuming an MSRP of on average 10K that is 4K per watch before overhead. So 60-80K per month. Not much when you consider you have to pay wages to a sales staff, rent, and everything else that goes into a business. Any AD that tells you they only get a few watches in a month is probably lying. It is far more likely they are flipping the watches out the back door for a big fat profit.

I think it varies do to location and AD. I had no spend history and received a SubDate within a month last April 2018. Then visited another store that the same AD owned and received a BLNR within a month as well October 2019. I visited all 8 ADs in my local area and they all said something different.

Today i was in the Galleria store in Houston. They had 4 PM Daytonas; 1 YG sub; 2 PM sky dwellers and a couple of YM1 and 2s. I think the only SS was the YM2. All in the display case. I hadn’t seen 4 Daytonas in one place in years. They said they same thing.

This is true, the desirable (hot) watches are in the AD's safes. A short story to prove my point.
I walked into a local AD just to see what they had in the display cases which wasn't much. The only one I was slightly interested in was a TT Daytona. I told the sales person I was interested in Daytona SS Ceramic, Pepsi GMT, or a SS blue dial Sky-Dweller. Of course they were not available until the owners son noticed I was wearing a 1655 Explorer II. And then he offered me any one I was interested in for trade of my 1655, even the SS Daytona ceramic white dial (new). I offered to buy it outright but they wouldn't sell it.
Believe me the AD's are sitting on these watches trying to make a better deal than just selling them to us customers. I won't be going back to that AD.

The AD sounds like a jerk and a profiteer. Do jerks last long in the jewelry business?

Just to clarify my AD is not in LA. He is out of the country but my understanding is they do get those numbers per month, the difference is how many get snapped up by upper management before they even get to the manager. It’s shocking. Many times when you hear stories from ADs of not seeing a watch, highly likely they haven’t seen it. They get hoarded by regional managers or even owners. Take everything with a grain of salt. But my point is that the BLNR is now a watch that this person is getting to allocate as he sees, which does not happen with the Pepsi Daytona or hulk. Seems the blnr is being delivered in higher quantities as well. My guess is the fact they had that bezel already and have run into quality issues on the Pepsi bezel affects their numbers.

Its all a fallacy. I wanted a Hulk, CHNR and BLNR this year from my AD and I got them. I’ve also asked for a BLRO before xmas and have received a tentative promise. My AD knows that I keep my watches and, I also spend money on jewelry for my fiancé. If you stroll into an AD with no purchase history, 9 x out of 10 there’s 5 guys like me with purchase history asking and waiting for the watch you want. It would make zero commercial sense in any business to sell to the unknown buyer when you have people who truly spend $$$ waiting for the same piece. There are flukes, we’ve seen them on TRF “hey I walked in with no history and got a BLRO” but, I don’t buy it.

These threads make me chuckle just a little bit. The price decrease hasn't been caused by an increase in supply. It's the Chinese money that hasn't been able to reach its favourite destination. Same destination that determines the market price for what a BLNR Jubi, BLRO, Sub Date etc. goes for...

the two on oysterflex were yellow gold with one gold face and one black face, but to be honest, i could be wrong on that.

i believe the yellow gold one was gold face

The white gold was silver face. It probably is gone, while i was waiting for my watch to be sized, there was already a guy looking at it seriously and this was at 11:30 in the morning.

Bang on! I’ve been waiting on a Pepsi since Basel and called into the Patek AD to put a watch in to be serviced, I mentioned that I had been waiting a year and a half and they pointed out that the Rolex AD obviously didn’t consider me a good customer and you know what, they are right, I have completely lost interest in the Pepsi now.

When you get the call, please refer me will you.

I don't have issues in waiting, at some point it will hit the three year mark where I'll be putting the pressure on and will get it. Force their hand if you will, because I called their bluff in the wait.

Only 16 months to go chuckle. That said I did get a Daytona in that amount of time for the same AD.
