Done over by an AD
Having recently bought a Rolex dress watch, AD promised a SS (not too fussed about the flavour) within a 'few months', whatever that means. Had several phone calls from same AD over past few days excited to offer me either solid gold or bi-metal professional....provided I buy yet another 'selected' gold watch from stock to go along with it. Following his logic I am into the AD for just under £30k for three watches and still don't have a what I would call a day watch made from Stainless Steel.
I've heard of buying something off the shelf in order to secure a SS piece but this is taking the piss. |

You should never have purchased that dress watch without receiving the SS watch you wanted at the same time. You fell for this trick. Learn from it and don't make the same mistake again.
Furthermore, anyone who says he just wants an SS watch and is not too fussed about the flavor might as well proclaim that he is much more interested in flipping the watch for a profit than he is in owning the watch. Dealers would rather sell to people who's intention it is to keep and enjoy it. |

I wouldn’t buy anything else until they come up with your SS model. Politely refuse anything else.

Can’t understand it. Salesmen are normally the most trustworthy.

I told my AD that I was not going to buy what I wanted to buy now and won’t buy anything in the future until they sold me the watch I wanted. It magically appeared from the safe within the hour.

Take your business elsewhere or remind your SA what they “promised”

Anyone who plays with these ADs and their games is nuts. 30k will buy you 3 or 4 nice used SS models.

Sounds like it's time to find a new AD. But I have to ask, you want a SS Rolex, but you don't care which one? Sounds a little suspicious, and can only mean one of two things: you're looking to flip for a quick profit, or you're overly concerned with following the most popular trends and don't have much passion for this hobby.
My advice would be for you to spend some time researching different Rolex models (or even other brands), and find yourself a watch that speaks to you, regardless of the current trend...then go find yourself a more trustworthy AD. You'll be much happier in the long run. |

Hmm? That's why the secondary market exist. No it isn't cheap on the secondary market, but these sort of commitments aren't necessary.

Hes right. If you are playing that bundling game you secure both watches at the same time. Promises are worthless, you lost all leverage and youre back at zero, that first watch didnt count.

Step by Step process:
1. Buy another, bundle it at the same time with a SS. 2. Sell the PM watches to grey market at a loss. 3. Be into the SS for what you would have if you went grey to begin with. 4. Walk back to AD, tell him to go pound sand. 5. Have a beer, enjoy your SS. |

Ah, if only honesty and truthfulness were required from the ADs...though I guess we wouldn't have the "my AD told me" threads.
Move on and stop giving them your business Jim. |

Just tell him to cough up to his promise or he'll lose all of your future business. As nicely and cool as you can be.

If you don’t have previous and lengthy buying history with your AD,don’t play this game.
I am now hearing daily that even people who have good buying history with Rolex AD’s are now being asked to buy crap that they don’t want or bundle in order to get a SS or paying up to 30 or 40 k just to end up with one SS sub in the end. Don’t go there, just go gray to start with and cherry pick what you want. You have the watch straight away, the watch you want and not have to pay tens of thousands of pounds over for crap you dont want in the first place. It’s a no brainier and a shame this is the reality. You get no medals I’m afraid buying from an AD nowadays. |

Go grey. Immediately. And write the first watch off as a lesson. OR, better yet, ask your grey dealer to take the dress watch as trade toward the SS you want. Problem solved. Thank me later.

You are one of the persons that would’ve benefited from paying a premium in the grey market instead of trying to build a relationship
That relationship thing works too, but it depends how deep your pockets are, and what your interests are For example, if your significant other loved jewelry, and diamonds, it might be convenient to buy some from the AD then try to get a watch But buying random things you don’t want or need is NOT the way to go about it |
