Icon5 "Circle marks" around bezel pears on Submariner 5513?

Hi,

I am new to the forum and Rolex's - and recently got offered a Sub 5513 from 1987.

When looking at the bezel I noticed a circle around the pearl. The owner says all parts are original to the watch and has not been modified, what do you folks think? My concern is that these marks might come from a pearl replacement.

The pearls from that era had metal surrounds, I believe. I think we will need to see a photo.

Here is a link to the picture of the watch and "circle". My suspicion is that this might come from a tool / repair.

I think that is the wrong pearl. It is a pearl from an earlier insert. Your pearl should have a metal surround. Take a look at photos of other watches from the same year.

I believe that’s incorrect. The 5513 always had plastic pearl.

Hello! Pearl is correct but circle around is damage in the insert. Nothing to worry about imo.

Regards,

Dino

After having done some further research, it seems like the "circle" might have come from a peal with gold around it. Found another 5513 from the same year below, which has the pearl + gold (steel?) around it. From the size of it, it matches the circles on the watch I am looking at.

Maybe this might be a service bezel which has later had the peal changed?

Why not take the time to post a picture instead of links, you'll get more reactions. Lots of people don't click on links
