Aquanaut 5167 vs 15400 blue dial RO

I post this in Patek forum but also want to know what AP forum thinks.

I have AP Royal Oak 15400 blue dial and have opportunity to buy new Aquanaut 40mm stainless rubber strap ref. 5167.

I only want to keep one and am undecided and want to poll the forum.

Between 15400 blue dial Royal oak and Aquanaut 5167 what would you pick?

15400 over 5167. Were we talking about a 5164, it would be a harder decision, but I would still likely pick the 15400

I have the 15500 blue and 5164 but had the 15400 and 5167 prior. Between the two you asked about I would say the RO is more impressive overall in terms of what you get for your money but for my style the aquanaut is the easy choice. I spend most days in nike gym clothes so keep that in mind haha

I think the RO is far more dazzling and bang for your buck, while the Aqua is stealthy sporty lux, personally I like most the 5164, which is a little bit more complicated and detailed.

I never liked the Aqua (all due respect to owners). 5711 would be an apples to apples tougher choice.

The RO will have far more visual impact if that is what you want. The Aquaman (yes, I coined it) has virtually no visual impact to other people and can easily be mistaken as a Timex or Hamilton. It is like wearing WG or Platinum, only you know what you are wearing. So if you want to make an impact, buy the RO. I own the Aqua and am very happy with it. YMMV.

I only would for 5164, but if you’re asking yourself this question, maybe the aquanaut is best for you.

VERY different style. The AP screams money with its gorgeous finishing, the 5167 is a nod at understatement with some great prestige behind it...which at the end of the day is my choice btw the two. Now, there are PLENTY of AP pieces I prefer more than Pateks, if not the majority...so this one is just interesting.

What "job" is this piece supposed to do in the collection for you?

What else is the the collection currently and why did you choose those pieces?

15400 over the 67. If it were the 64....that would be totally different....

I have owned both a 5167 and RO. And IMO, I terms of actual workmanship and art, it would be the RO hands down.

Honestly, take the Patek name out and the 5167 does not stand a chance. However, for some reason the value of the team is incredibly powerful and with artificial production constraints, the 5167 tends to appreciate more.

Aquanaut 5167 vs 15400 blue dial RO

The aquanaut bezel does not excite me at all - quite the opposite in fact. The RO on the other hand has far more going on.

Definitely 15400.

Don't really get the appeal of the aquanaut at all. Understated, which is nice if that's your style, but as said above...without the Patek name...I think this model would be a lot less popular.

5167 is such a boring watch. I get that it's under the radar but if I'm spending $30K+ on a watch why would I want it to be stealthy? 5164 is a different story

The AP is more impressive and stylish. But the 5167 is the better watch for me.

I've had the 5167 (now have the 5164). The 5167 is very small. It's great if you have small wrists, but not great if you don't. The 5167 is the most comfortable watch I've ever worn (5164 very slightly less so).

Just depends what you want. Rubber strap or not?

Depends on for which occasions do you intend to wear these watches for.

The AP works well with formal and informal occasions while the aquanaut in my opinion is only for informal occasions.

With that being said, the 15400 in blue dial is a better all rounder, the aquanaut is nice but it only makes sense to buy it over the AP if you are really into patek and would really want to acquire one.

You can purchase the 5167 first since you have already been offered and you would be in the best position to decide whether you liked the 15400 or the 5167. You may end up keeping both but in the event you wish to sell the 5167, you won’t make a loss either. The grey dealers in SG are still holding out for a high premium.

5164 > 15202 > 5167 > 15400

This is how I’d rank them

Good move! Now you can take your time to decide or just keep both!

I have the same kind of problem..

I’m on the list for the 5164 and will most likely receive a call early 2020.

I can only afford one at the moment. What would you choose 15300 blue dial or 5164?
