Carbotech owners—have some questions!

Happy Holidays Everyone!!

Anyone own a carbotech? I’m mulling the idea of the Pam 1616. I am however concerned about the durability and feel of this material.

Can anybody expand on this? I am afraid that this might have the feel of a toy on the wrist? Can it take getting knocked around as a daily wearer?

I’m interested to know as well. I’ve been admiring the PAM960. Curious though if it feels too light or small. Has anyone worn one or tried it on? Thoughts ?

It’s weird they have a 42mm and 47mm. I think a 44mm in this would be perfect.

Carbotech is a hate it or love it kinda material

It’s light and feel plasticky so I don’t like it but some people love it (like Mystro)

My 616 is the most used watch in my collection for over a year now, I'm not a desk diver only, I'm on construction sites also and have a 3 year old child, the watch looks like new.
Material is better and stronger than the AP FC eg, I've had the AP FC Diver and this one wasn't as tough than the Panerai Carbotech is...
And it's super comfortable also...

I love my 1616. 6 months of having it in the rotation and no signs of wear at all. It’s big, but it’s so light it doesn’t feel big.

It is THE toughest watch I have ever owned. It’s stronger than titanium yet scratch resistant as ceramic and not brittle. It doesn’t conduct heat/cold on the arm. Carbotech is THE strongest and most durable material I know of in the watch industry. I had mine on several dives this summer and hit it on the side of a bridge pier 12’ under water. Any other watch like a Sub I would have surfaced to access the scuffs and possible dents/ceramic bezel cracking. Not one mark on my Pam 661 Carbotech. Absolutely pristine. Carbotech is in its own league. As far as feel,....If your are familiar with exotic cars or aircrafts, it has that exact light weight carbon fiber compared to its metal counterpart feel. It’s light weight is why it’s so special. Mine is 105 grams on the wrist. Carbon fiber will never be confused with SS.



As far as how the watch wears?.......”Its like wearing a flat black LaFerrari on the wrist”. Very exotic looking, ultra light weight with a very high performance movement under the hood. It’s my most comfortable watch I own. Dial legibility in any/low light is also best in class. I wear mine a lot.

The new Panerai p.9010 movement is outstanding and has shown to have a 80 hour power reserve. The amplitude Panerai achieves with the double barrel mainspring is the highest I have ever tested on the scope. Ceramic rotor bearings, it’s got it all if you are a movement snob. Another unique quality of this watch is the way it transmits it’s movement’s metallic ticking sound through the Carbotech case. It’s almost amplified and wonderful sounding like what a well constructed acoustic guitar body does.
Between the looks and performance, it’s a rockstar and stands out from the crowd.

FYI: I wanted to add, even the crown and cam-lock crown guard is made of Carbotech. That is amazing engineering and shows how strong Panerai has tested their proprietary Carbotech material.

I tried a carbotech last week and its really a nice watch but for me just too light. I love to feel my watches on the wrist.

I looked at one at an AD not long ago. Very cool but I can’t pull of a 47mm watch. Looks like a hockey puck on my wrist! If it was 44 or smaller, would have likely bought one.

Didn't know that till you mentioned it. See there is a 960 offered but on a quick search, no one shows any for sale so must be pretty rare. Not even a boutique or limited release so a little surprised no one seems to have them.

I just purchased a 945 from the boutique in Doha and got a chance to see the 47mm 1616 (I think?) while I was in there. Fantastic watch! A bit big for me, so I asked about the 960. They did not have one for me to look at. I must admit I was surprised at the price on both, and the 960 specifically. I mean, 17,800 for the 47 seems a little high to me, but it is a big watch and has an in house movement, so okay, maybe a little overpriced? But 17,400 for the 42MM with an ETA movement?

I don't know. I am really enjoying Panerai right now, and would love to add a 960 one day, but the pricing does put me off a bit. I get that it is some new awesome process of development, but still strikes me as a bit of a money grab from Richemont.

Am I reading this wrong?

Tried on both these models a couple of weeks ago. Fabulous editions. Had the 992 on hold for a couple of days. But now aiming for the 931 instead (hopefully )
