Date just 36mm what year!
Hey guys new to the forum and have been a avid collector of the past of Omega watches. Unfortunately I went through a nasty divorce and separated with my collection to pay the lawyer.
Now I’m in the market again to start collecting again. I want to start off with a bang. I’m going for my grail watch, yeah believe it or not I just found the date just to be perfect in every regard. So this is my situation I want to spend no more then 4 to 5k On this and I recently remarried and have a child on the way. So what year or model numbers do you guys recommend. Thanks John |

There are a lot of pre-owned 36mm in that price range. I suggest finding a bracelet, dial, configuration you like and work backwards from there!

I’d say any with at least a quick set.

Like mentioned above with the DJ you can mix and match a bunch of different ways by changing the dial, bezel and/or bracelet. You may want to look at a few in person and see what speaks to you. I was after a very specific DJ with fluted bezel/jubilee and blue roman dial. Found one after about a month or so of light searching and absolutely love it.
Good luck, they are beautiful watches. |

Yeah in regards to setting the date it looks like my model, the reference 16014, was the first to offer quickset starting in 1977: https://www.phigora.com/wp-blog/role...-vs-ref-16014/
"On the flipside...When it was introduced in 1977, the Caliber 3035 boasted a higher frequency rating of 28,800 beats per hour rather than the previous 19,800 beats per hour. Higher frequencies mean higher accuracy ratings.Furthermore, the Caliber 3035 was the first movement to offer the quickset feature to the Datejust collection. Therefore, adjusting the date only requires a simple turning of the crown, independently of the center hands." |

Within your budget it is a nice 5 digit DJ, post 1990.
Look for smooth bezel and oyster bracelet. Fluted bezel would be more expensive.....I think you can get a better condition watch settling for a smooth (steel) bezel.

It depends on what you want/need. I wouldn’t consider a watch that didn’t have a date or wasn’t automatic. The idea that a mechanical movement can keep great time without a battery or winding it still amazes me. Also, how much bling do you want on your wrist? I don’t wear my Rolex when I leave the country- I don’t want to attract attention or thieves, and I’d be heartbroken if it was stolen. When I spent my last trip to NYC, I walked 27 miles in three days. I did not take my Rolex with me.
YMMV and good luck. |
