Lange or Gronefeld

I know a few members own, or have experiences with both. I'm curious if there is a preference, personal hierarchy?

I'm considering a Lange 1 pre-owned, rose gold, or a Gronefeld principia salmon dial, steel. I do have my main boxes checked already, dress - Lang and Heyne Friedrich III, sports Sub and Speedy...

Groenfeld is a full step above Lange.

I own two Langes--- Datograph Up/Down and double split chrono platinum..I did sell my Lange Timezone 1 and do miss it sometimes. I own a steel Gronefeld Bespoke remontoire watch as well. As you can see my choice of Lange and Gronefeld are different beasts. I guess it depends on which models you are considering. I love both.

BTW I am considering for my next purchase a Lange perpetual calendar vs a Gronefeld Parallex Tourbillon. I am leaning towards the former... or nothing at this point but have not settled on anything at the moment.

How so? I haven't had the chance to see a groenfeld in person yet but I haven't really experienced anything with better finishing than my Lange 1.

I own a RG Lange 1 and have tried on the Principia on multiple occasions.

To me, they're very different watches. If I had to compare, I'd say the principia is more interesting to look at (case, dial and movement architecture). Depending on your lifestyle, the principia would likely be more versatile.

On the other hand the Lange 1 is iconic, a staple watch. There is more value to be had (especially if buying pre-owned). It will likely stand the test of time much better.

For what it's worth, I find the finishing on both to be spectacular.

In terms of movement decoration, I will rate Gronefeld above Lange. But its close, kind of like 9.5/10 vs 9/10. But it's noticeable. Gronefeld uses SS for movement, and it's black polished and finished to near perfection.

I own a Gronefeld Remontaire. The movement really pops.

This really is one of my favorite movements to look at. Wish they kept the Principia manual wind; the rotor blocks the view.

I agree... otherwise a no brainer for me personally... as looking at the principia...

From a $$ standpoint, Lange 1 pre-owned seems like the safe move.

The Lange will check the same box as the L&H in my opinion, the Grönefeld will give you something more of an in-betweener as I think it can be dressed up and also very casual. More versatile and for me versatility is what drives more wrist time for my watches.

Lange is great watch but Gronefeld is something very interesting.
My turquoise principia is on the way too.

Gronefeld would be my choice.
You almost can't buy them used which means their owners are very pleased and worth every $.

Lange is more practical. Gronefeld is more beautiful. For a wife I’d go with practical. For a watch I’d go with beautiful.

I've noticed this as well. Very good feather in the caps of Bart and Tim.

Or skeletonised it, at least.

Remontoire with Comblemine dial is an extremely special watch, let alone the stainless steel bridges which should be something unique in the industry.

I consider the two brands to be equal in terms of quality, it's just that Lange is more traditional while Gronefeld is more contemporary.
