What do you like?
If you were lucky enough to be able to choose between the new Audemars Piguet Royal Oak 15500 and the Patek Nautilus 5711, which would you choose? Why?
Sorry to publish this post here, but in the AP forum or the PP forum the answers would not be completely impartial. |

tough decision. I really like both but if I had to choose one I'd go with the AP because it gives me more of a intense sports feeling as where as the Patek feels more like golf club or yacht party.

As long as they don’t have a “no date” version...

AP, very easily. A movement that doesn’t hack and a tiny date window with indifferent number font is preposterous for a $30k ss watch, nevermind at market price. The Nautilus is all hype founded on the fact that it was the least expensive watch PP offered once upon a time.

PP because I like the darker-shade blue dial better.

None, at this price point I'd choose something else.
The Genta design never really worked for me.

5711. I wouldn’t pay half of retail for the 15500 bc I don’t like the way it fits me.

If I had to choose, I guess I'd take the Nautilus but I personally think watches from the seventies are ugly. The prices these are going for is insanity.

Between those 2, I'd take the 5711. If 15202 were an option, I'd take that over the 5711.

5711 - easy choice. Comfort on the wrist is simply perfect - true of 11/12/40.

Neither, as against the grain that may be.
Of the ROs, the 15300 dial style was much more preferable, but the size wouldn’t work for me. Overall though, the design was a bit too fussy and I couldn’t abide the crown – style over ergonomics as far as my fingers were concerned. The Nautilus just doesn’t have any appeal, with or without Patek’s name on the dial. In fact, I bet if it was Piaget whose name was on that design, it would've probably been discontinued due to its lack of popularity. It was the 2nd Gen VC Overseas, whose bracelet was a triumph in design, that did it for me, but the crown was just too fiddly due to the ‘guard’, which is one thing the 4500V got right. Still love the 47040 aesthetic though, and would’ve been the perfect watch with the 3rd’s crown and the 1st’s military dial. |

5711. I find it much more elegant and light-handed in terms of design than the RO which has a very industrial look in my eyes, no matter if 15202 or 15500.

I've owned the 15400 and currently have the 15202 and the 5711. I found the 15400 to be too large for a 7" wrist and prefer the 15300 and the 15202.
The 5711 is the most versatile and beautiful watch I have ever owned and feels right for most non-combat situations. |
