HELP! Trade 3 for 1?

Hey guys, I really don’t know what to do here. I have 3 watches that I love dearly, a two tone blue face sub, stainless date sub, and a datejust II grey slate Roman dial. I’ve been toying with the idea of getting rid of all 3 for a yellow gold president. My concern is regretting my decision of getting rid of my 3 watches. Help me out, what should I do??

Keep one of the Subs and get rid of the other 2 and either pony up a bit of cash, or buy a slightly older DD and then you will have a great 2 watch collection.

You will miss having a sports watch I think.

If it were me I wouldn’t flip the others and just try to add a preowned DD.

I enjoy the variety of multiple watches, but YMMV. Perhaps flip the DJ and bluesy. That way you have a SS sport watch and a PM dress watch.

I would not trade 3 for 1, so I think this ultimately comes down to what makes the best two watch collection. Either SS sub with a gold DD, or have you considered the alternative? - keep the DJ, sell the subs and get the grand daddy all gold blue sub.

In 2018 I owned a TT SubC and SS SubC and a DJ. I definitely wanted a 118238DD, so I kept my 116610LN and traded in the Bluesy. A rarely wear my SS SubC due the fact that my DJ/DD wears more comfortable on my wrist.
Problem with a full gold Rolex IMHO is the fact that you can not wear it all times, depends circumstances.
My advice: Keep your DJII and trade in the Subs towards the DD.(unless you are a diver, or have a hobby with watersport)

I wouldn’t do it.

1 watch is not a “collection” & I think you would miss the variety & convenience of having different watches for different occasions & circumstances.

Ultimately it’s your decision though but think it through

Personally I would love to add a SS Daytona Ceramic but have little to no chance of getting one from my AD.

Do I want to sell 2 or 3 pieces to raise the £20k+ I’d need to get one from a grey?

Not really tbh

All great watches, probably not a good idea though.

Would probably also hang on to that 116610 and trade the rest + cash for a DD.

I wouldn’t do the trade. IMHO, if you have to get rid of the watches you love for one you think you might love the time isn’t right.

I guess it comes down to what you want and what you are willing to pay. You can find a DD for mid teens that is complete and in good condition. If you want a DD40 it will be more and closer to mid to upper 20's. I might be tempted to go large and get the DD40 and have a one Rolex line-up. You can always pick up a reasonable Seiko or Casio for a beater. Let us know what you decide.

Love dearly and 3 for 1 are 2 things that scream out at me. Never a 3 for 1 unless you have a large collection 2 for 1 at most. Keep the watch you wear the most. Wait a little longer if you have to but do a 2 for 1 at most you will be so much more happier. There will be an occasion where you just don’t want to wear your DD and will be wishing you had a sport watch

HELP! Trade 3 for 1?

Keep the Sub, or whatever SS sports watch...save more and buy that gold pres.....or screw it, go ahead and get that president with the knowledge that you end up buying another sport piece down the road! (Kidding...sort of) Depending on what you like / your personality / how you dress most of the time, yellow gold may not be versatile enough...or it might be just fine. Let us know what you end up doing.

I have a lot of SS, heavy on divers, and I’ve considered doing what you’re proposing. What stops me personally is that I like the variety and I am very fickle. I don’t think I am a 1-watch guy.

The question for you is whether you’d be satisfied with one heavy hitter. I picked up two vintage DDs to satisfy my interest in gold, essentially as a test drive, to see how I like wearing it. It’s great and the president bracelet is comfortable for me, but I remain convinced I’d get bored easily if I had a DD as a one and only.

My vote is keep 1 SS if possible. Looking forward to seeing which direction you decide to go.

I watched a white gold day date 18238 full set go for around $13.5k on another forum, ditch the bluesy and the datejute and just bide your time waiting for a good deal.

If you love all three then I wouldn’t. You might not bond with the DD.

Hard choice. There is no Right or Wrong answer to be found here. If the DD will get more wrist time than the other 3, then I would do it!

I would only get rid of watches you dislike or don’t wear as much.

You have a lot of bases covered there. I’d stick personally, but if not I’d keep the SS sub and chop the other 2 in against the DD. That would be a great duo to own.

If the Op is looking to trade 3 for 1 - I would say he is looking at a DD40 not a DD36 just going by the numbers alone.

In saying that - Op if you know in your heart you really really want the DD40 just do it. What I found in this watch life is that once your heart is set on a particular model especially the grand daddy of them all well its going to be very hard to forget about it. A DD40 is a true lifetime watch.

Right on the money. I've lived the dream and can tell you this is the most accurate response you're gonna get.

Take a breath and reflect on just what it is you want out of a watch collection...or if you even want a collection.

Do it. Clearly if you're toying with the idea of trading then these three pieces aren't doing it for you. Get something that will, the President

+1 on this.

also, maybe an option as others have suggested is to buy an older, maybe even much older day date to see how you feel about it on the wrist before making the jump? That way you are more informed on how you like it after an extended test drive before parting with watches that you love.

Problem with this the older DDs feels nothing like a newer modern DD. There is a reason the older ones sell for like $15k - $18k and the new ones are $30k+

I tried to do this myself. Doesnt work
