New watch advice
Hello All,
I am currently deciding between 3 watches to add to my current collection. My current Collection consists of 1978 Rolex 1500, 1967 Omega Seamaster Deville KL6068, and an Oris Artelier Moon complication 2003. Knowing my current SotC and me seeking a brand new sports model to use as a daily wear that is versatile where I can go from relaxing, hiking, to dressing up for an occasion. The models I am losing sleep over are Explorer 214270, Explorer II 216570, and lastly the AirKing 116900 (mainly the two Explorers). My wrist is 7.1" or 18cm. I would appreciate an outside perspective and pictures on similar sized wrists, bigger or smaller (especially the Ex II) and reasons of purchase. I love all these watches in different ways and have a way I'm leaning towards, just seeing if I am missing something. Thanks |

The 42mm Explorer II wears slightly large if you’re looking at the polar dial. Don’t know about the black. I have the same wrist as you and 40mm is the sweet spot. Good presence, not overwhelming. 40mm Explorer would be a perfect daily. Air-King
Is nice but almost lacks personality when compared to Explorer. |

I tend to agree. The Explorer is a classic and timeless piece that is the most versatile and a great daily wear watch. It's my favorite of the three options.

im so mad , I had the opportunity to purchase one from my AD but for some reason I was so locked on the black dial ex2 bc the extra 2 grand got me 2 extra complications and one feature more. The 214270 was my first love and now I regret not getting it

I had the 216570 for a long time, and I now have a 214270. I love them both, but they’re completely different watches.
I sold the Exp II (polar) because it was just too large for my 6.75” wrist, which is too bad because it’s kind of a perfect daily watch otherwise. The 39mm Explorer 214270 is the ideal daily watch for me. The size is perfectly suited to my wrist, and it fits every situation. Based on the way you’ve described your criteria, I think either these options would be great for you, it will probably just come down to how you feel with them on your wrist. |

Don’t be mad. The 214270 is probably the easiest SS sport model to get. You’ll have one in no time.

yeah so how it went down was , I always loved the 214270 and then took a serious look at the blackdial 216570. went into the AD with my buddy who purchased a black and gold sub. I gave my AD the list like this 216570>214270>116900>used 14270. He called me a week later stating that the 214270 came in so I went to take a look and stated I really wanted the 216, he then gave me the second allocation for 2020. I then tried one on quickly a polar and now prefer the 214270 but will most likely be buying both ><

I never owned the Explorer but I did have an AK and loved it, also having a Milgauss I decided to trade the AK for a new Polar. It sits low and comfortable and with its slender tapered lugs and smaller twin lock crown guards you should have no problem with any looking too large fit issue. Happy Choosing!

If you want the explorer 2... get the 40mm one. Other than that, Exp 1 all day.

At 6.5 in, my wrist is able to swing a modern Ex II black dial. White wears too big but it is VERY easy to read. At 7.1 in wrists, you can probably pull off the white. It’s thinner and has more taper in the lugs than the other sports pieces. Or at least it seems to.

Tried on the explorer 39mm and didn’t like the bezel. Was too thick. I didn’t notice it at first but after a few minutes I couldn’t stop noticing it. I am in the market for a good travel watch. I prefer the date as well. I’m now trying to find a SkyD to fill the gap in my collection. I owned the black explorer ll and it’s much better looking in person. Had the choice between the black and the white. My brother got the white. If buying today I think I would go black if I wanted a everyday wear with anything watch. I think the white dial makes it slightly more casual and sporty.

I think that the Explorer II, 42 mm, is currently one of the most under rated watches in the Rolex lineup. It wears well, is attractive, dial is easy to read and it can be a real workhorse. It looks good with a few scratches also. I liked it so much I bought both the black and white dials.

I much prefer the black dial Exp 2 especially if you want to wear the watch semi dressed up.
