AP Novice - Carbon vs Ceramic vs Titanium
Hello,
I have always wanted an AP Offshore. Looking at the 44mm Chronograph series. I would like a lightweight daily nice watch on a rubber strap. I find my manual wind Panerai and my SD43 not that comfortable to sleep/shower etc. I wear my Casio Protrek most of the time (solar, nuclear time set, light weight). The Casio is a great watch, but a bit beat up. My questions for the forum: 1) what is the weight diff of the 44mm case in steel vs titanium vs carbon vs ceramic? I tried on a 44mm forged carbon fiber 26400AU.OO.A002CA.01. Felt awesome and light. 2) Any advantage/disadvantage of forged carbon fiber vs Titanium vs Ceramic cases in the AP 44mm line? 3) I am not loving the new wide pushers on the AP Chronos vs the older buttons like on the 26207IO.OO.A002CA.01 Sebastien Buemi model. Thoughts? 4) Thoughts on buying a limited production piece vs a non? thanks in advance for your advice, Marc |

For number two, the titanium will be most likely to scratch, the forged carbon would be the second but in reality it's unlikely as the case is pretty resilient, and ceramic won't scratch at all. For number three, it's a matter of preference, personally I like the rectangular pushers more than the buttons. Last one is a matter of personal preference. |

I recently tried on the forged carbon as well as the titanium and there was no discernible difference.
I prefer some heft so I opted for the gold model. The case design of the 44 is such that the weight is evenly disbursed across the span of your wrist. For what it’s worth with regard to the pushers the design of the 44mm was what actually drew me to AP. Good luck there are no wrong choices. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

If someone could give me the weight on the Ceramic case and Titanium case on the 44mm that would be great. The forged carbon I was told is about 120grams. I think a watch under 125grams is ideal for sleeping/comfort daily wear. Just my opinion.

149g for ceramic. Ti will be very close. IIRC within a few grams.

I heard ceramic doesn’t scratch at all either... what, in your opinion, is the best looking ceramic AP for daily wear?

Which do you prefer in terms of look and style.. ? I generally like titanium more than any other metal. I own watches in all the metals and carbon and ceramic but if a choice I like titanium.. Relatively light and just generally prefer the look. |

So the trade off is the FC might be lighter but is more open to wear and tear, seen a few examples of damage over the years, the CE will be more durable, esp if you plan to sleep with it on and you are a mover.

I think you would be better off to take a drive to your local dealer to get all of your questions answered. More so when it comes to sizing, wear and fit.

I have the 26405CE, and I really like it. It’s big obviously, but it’s pretty light, so it’s very comfortable to wear frequently or even daily. I’ve had for a year, and it looks brand new - the ceramic is really nice in that regard, you don’t have to worry about scratching it up.
I noticed the Panerai you posted as well. I also have the 1616 which is the 47mm submersible in carbotech. It’s very similar in that it’s large but super, super light. I really love this watch. I just weighed them, and the AP came in at 147g, and the Panerai was only 111g. |
