A few weeks with HD
As some of you know, I bought a new TV set, AV receiver and surround speaker set a couple of weeks ago. Anticipating on the arrival of all the gear, I upgraded my cable connection to High Definition a month before.
I've retuned the sound system after I installed all the new cables (I bought new cables and connectors as well) and although the sound while watching TV or DVD is good, the sound with radio broadcasts is cr@p. The bass is much too heavy, it is 'booming' and the overall sound stage is very poor. I still have to look into that but it takes up so much time. I'm pleased with the picture quality. As the receiver will scale-up every signal to 1080p, even non-HD transmissions benefit and sometimes produce amazing results. The eight HD channels I can receive now are just a sign of things to come. The three public TV channels in The Netherlands will start broadcasting in HD this year (in May) and that will be the beginning. I pay an extra 9 Euro a month for the HD set-top box. Is it worth the extra money? For me it is. It provides a few extras that makes it worth my while. TiVo like recording features, HDMI and Toslink output and 1080i signal. Plus a larger hard drive. I took the opportunity to replace my speaker cables and replaced all the connectors (banana plugs) as well. If this has added to the overall improvement of the sound I don't know because I replaced everything but at least it looks neat If i sound like a boy with a new toy that is correct As just a common guy, being able to buy stuff like this makes me very happy

I've had mine about a few weeks also!
I don't know as much fancy tech speak as you but I am enjoying it. Makes me realize the celebrities are not as pretty as we think they are Seriously though... the only downside is that I have to switch my TV input everytime I go from HD to nonHD and viceversa. Gotta find a better way! |

HD is fantastic. We have Direct TV instead of Charter Cable. Must have 50-60 HD channels if not more. Movies and sports are worth it alone.

If you are using the HDMI output, try this;
Go into the comcast cable box's set up menu and set HDMI to 16:9, and SD to off (not 480i or 480p). Then be sure your tv is set to 16:9, when you change channels, they should automatically adjust to the correct size. Just be sure you don't have any zoom or other adjustments selected on your tv's remote. That should do it.
