Thoughts on Tudor Chrono Time 79260

Hi all,

I"m going into town to take a look at one of these tomorrow or rather 2 of them. One is a silver dial with black sub dials and is a 2007 79260P and the other is a black dial with white sub dials 79260H. I like the design especially without the Tiger branding.

Wondering if anyone here owns this piece and what are your thoughts on it?

Also wonder why Tudor ceased making this reference as it seems pretty timeless.

Jonathan,

I have a 79270P [12 hour rotating bezel], which I happen to be currently selling [not a plug, just an effort of full disclosure]. I replaced the original Tiger dial w/ a vintage Big Block silver w/ black subs.

These are great chronographs. They have the more modern curved cases like the Daytona vs the earlier Big Blocks. The height is about 1MM less than the Big Blocks but due to the design look thinner. These have a 25 jewel workhorse 7750. I consider these sleepers and since they ain't making anymore their value should do well enough in the future.

Love that watch Dan, and great idea on switching out the dial. The "TIGER" writing is the one and only thing I never liked about this chrono. What is the height of this watch approximately?

I like the 79260, but I prefer the Tiger dial. I used to have a white one that I ended up selling, and currently have a black one.

They are a little on the thick side, but a nice watch for the price. One of my favorite Tudor's.

Thanks, Mike!

I haven't measured [don't have the proper tools] but have read it's about 12mm. Here's a couple pics of the Big Block vs a early 79280 I used to own.

Most of the difference is an illusion of the curved design but the BB case backs are flatter which also makes a difference in appearance.

OK makes sense. I think the curved design is a little more refined and sleek looking if I had to pick between the two.

Can’t go wrong with the Tudor Chrono, I love mine, and as Dan says a sleeper in my opinion, mine gets as much wrist time as my Daytona, I also have an OEM Tudor Jubilee for it

A side note about the Tudors are the Jubilee style bracelet. Due to its design, the 2nd and 4th SS components of each link act like a solid link (small hole) . That is probably why those bracelets usually have less stretch than the Oyster ones from that era.

The Tudor jubilee is a great combination of the classic Oyster and Jubilee. The SELs and solid link construction [except the very center links, per jaisonline's comments above] make it a great option for these chronographs. They are very hard to find on the open market.

Probably my favourite and most comfortable bracelet from all my watches. Bad news if you need an extra link though...rarer than Hen's Teeth.

Thanks everyone for posting some great pics! Seems to be a lot of options with this model. Even in the bezel between the tach and the rotating 12-hour. Not sure which dial I prefer the silver/black or the black/white. The silver w/black dials was serviced in 2015 and comes with papers and the black dial was re-finished recently and comes with box/papers. Prices are similar at $3800-3900.

Dan, great dial change and I like the red hand too

Black with white Sub dials is much rarer and usually commands a premium.

Thoughts on Tudor Chrono Time 79260

Jona,

Here is mine from 1998. I kept the original silver tapestry dial but sourced a panda & hands from NOS parts. Too bad, I couldn’t locate a panda with basic line hr markers.

I love the Tudor Panda w/ a date. The red hand is a nice touch that I love.

Hey Dan, this watch originally came with a black dial with black subs and silver hands. I wanted a Panda, so I replaced the dial with this white panda but found it difficult to see the silver hands. I then looked for black hands which would contrast with the new dial but couldn't find any. I found these older style maxi hands for 7750 movements and when having the watch overhauled my tech fitted these as an interim measure. Having gotten used to their practicality, I decided to leave it as is. I may change them to standard black at some stage but I'm in no rush.

Well, I walked out with the black dial Prince Date Chrono Time. Lovely piece, some tiny dings here and there on the case but overall very clean. The papers came undated so I am unsure of the year. I found the black a bit more legible and I kind of like the reverse panda look. This is my first foray into Tudor!

Took me several years to find the one I wanted, (without tiger on dial), green dial and Rolex crown.

That green dial is great look and very unique with the crown. Good find! I didn’t have any particular model in mind, even the Tiger branding on some models (ahem) didn’t bother me. I thought that the silver dial, black subs would be a no-brainer but when I had both on the wrist, the black suited me more.

I’ll post some pics soon

Those are much easier to read. Thanks for sharing the info.
