AP Royal Oak Offshore 26470IO Question

Hi. AP novice here. Was visiting LA over the weekend and walked into the AP on Rodeo. They didn't have much selection, but they did bring out this titanium Royal Oak Offshore that was available. I tried it on, and I thought it looked nice. But I'm on the list at my local Rolex AD for a Hulk Sub, and if I get the call in the next month or so (fingers crossed), I don't want to turn down the Sub (i.e. not sure that I'm mentally prepared to pay 27k+ for the AP plus the 9k+ for the Hulk - also nervous that turning down the Sub may hinder other opportunities with Rolex AD down the road). I ended up not purchasing the AP because after thinking about it, I liked it, but I wasn't in love with it, and I felt I'd rather wait on the Sub.

That being said, I've never really done a whole lot of research on APs. Are titanium ROOs difficult to come by and was it rare that they even had one available? If I walked into a Rolex AD, and they pulled out a white SS Daytona and offered it to me, I'd immediately know what to do. But I have no idea about the availability of APs. I guess I'm asking If I decide later on down the road that I want to jump into the AP game, am I going to be kicking myself for turning down this piece? Or are Royal Oak Offshores generally available-ish?

Thanks in advance!

I think you should buy what you like, not what will give you a high return on investment.

I am new to AP as well. I think the 42mm's are not as sought after as the 44mm chronos. I would be curious if an AP dealer would discount the 42mm at $27k.

In terms of buying what one likes vs investment, all of us will buy what we like (other than flippers). But it is nice to know if you are getting a good deal and since watch tastes vs. new models are fickle, we all like the possibility of trading. So, it is a very fair question to ask on the forums about rarity/pricing.

Get what you want! NO AP boutique is discounting anything like that though, sometimes on a mega diamond piece, but the market is too hot overall.

I agree. I wouldn't be buying to flip. I'd only really buy what I want to wear. I was just wondering if these APs were difficult to find - like if I decided I want one a year or two from now, if I walk into an AP boutique, are they relatively easily available. For example, maybe 3 or so years ago, I walked into a local Rolex AD, and purchased a mother-of-pearl datejust for my wife. Pretty much all the Rolex SS sports models were available at the time, and I debated getting one then, but I decided to go with a JLC Master Hometime. I love my JLC, but now, considering the Rolex shortage, I kinda wish I picked up a Sub or a GMT at that time.

At the end of the day, I think you're right. Between the AP and the Sub, I like the Sub better, so holding out for the Sub was probably a better choice for me considering I'm not going to buy both.

Thanks for the input! Didn't think about trading, but very good point. Didn't realize the 44s were more sought after than the 42s. The 42 did fit well on my wrist though, so if I ever end up getting an AP, may still go for the smaller size, but something to think about
