Vacheron Constantin 4500v question

Hi everyone - I purchased a 4500v blue off a well regarded member on another forum a few weeks back. Everything was fine other then a bit of dust under the dial (easy fix).

Today I was looking the movement and noticed that there was something off. The movement was stamped 5100/1, which i understand isn't the movement for this model. I pulled up a imagine of the movement online and it seems like the stamps are in the wrong place, along with the movement #.

Does anyone know if VC recently changed its movements? The watch came with full set, box and papers with tags. Warranty is dated Nov/2019.

Was hoping some VC owners could chime in. I'll most likely take it to an AD and get it checked out.

Figured it out. New production models movement is 5100/1 and the font layout is different. Leaving this up incase anyone else is wondering as it was difficult to find information on this

A little confused... I thought 5100 was already the new production calibre introduced in 2016. From cursory research the 5100/1 appears to be on their Quai de l'Ile line with tungsten rotor.

Did an AD inform you otherwise? If not, I would bring it in for a look . I could be wrong, of course.

Attached is a pic of the movement from my blue dial VCO purchased from an AD last summer, which matches what you posted from Google.

That is what I thought at first, as the 5100/1 brought up those searches from me as well, but I spoke to some pretty knowledgeable people and they confirmed it was just production variation from the late 2019 batch. Scanned the barcode on the certificate of authenticity and it verified as well.

DavidSW listed one back in October that showed the 5100/1 movement and the same inscription setup

Good to hear! Seems odd that VC would change it up without changing the info on their site, but they may just be late in doing so.

I ask myself what changed in the movement that warranted that change from 5100 to 5100/1.
I don't think VC would just change the inscription for no reason...??

The 5100/1 was developed for the QdI line, and differs slightly from the 5100 beyond rotor material.
Some (if not all) cups, which the pivots sit in are made from ceramic, and since the QdI line has since been discontinued, it’s not a surprise to see this revision making its way into the Overseas after the standard 5100 stocks were exhausted.
It’s possible that the positional change for the caliber and serial numbers, and the Geneva Seal mark rotation is in recognition of this being the new default caliber for the 4500v, with the 22K rotor.

Fear not, I purchased a 4500V blue dial from a Vacheron boutique in December 2019 and the serial numbers and seals are located in the same spots as yours

Interesting about the movements. I was never an Overseas fan, but after seeing them in person I have converted. Love the strap changing system. Also very elegant, I can see an Overseas on an alligator strap with a suit. Maybe its time to get one? If so, which one? The mind ponders...

I love the blue, honestly. I was in a similar boat, where I wasn't such a big Overseas fan, but while having the time of my life in the Maldives last summer I saw a guest walk in to his table next to mine for breakfast, wearing the black dial time only with the rubber strap, and I was immediately hooked. Could not stop thinking about it, and bought it while stopping by Doha on the way back home.

Just got mine. It’s amazing. I haven’t touch the bracelet yet because of the awesome rubber strap. It’s the perfect watch in my opinion. I was always hesitant to buy but when I finally did I couldn’t believe how much I love it.

I haven't spent time with my rubber strap yet - I'm waiting for the summer to bust it out, for now I'm focused on the leather and bracelet....but maybe it's worth taking it for a spin.

Does anyone find the deployant uncomfortable? I'm thinking about trying to get a regular pin buckle - I find that with the deployant, there's just a lot of hardware under my wrist and not quite as comfortable as others in my collection.

I love the rubber and throw it on during the weekends when I am casual or sometimes even on casual friday :).

I find it comfortable when you wear it, but when putting it on sometimes it pinches the skin if you aren't careful!

Heres my black (bought new) 4500V. 5100/1 as well. Orig. purchase date august 2019 from a NY AD. Cant find a link i read on the slight tweek on the movement 5100-5100/1. during 2018? What a great piece though. Love the rubber strap haven't tried leather. The bracelet is phenominal Can't take it off my wrist....

Beautiful piece! That is the same model that inspired me to get mine. Saw it on a guest sitting next to us on vacation and could not stop thinking about it.

Thank you for this post. I've put down my deposit for the blue dial and was wondering what are some of the updates/changes since the watch was released in 2016. Wanted to ask if yours came with the VC passport book? Thanks!
