Incoming - a super great find at a friend store

spotted a wild late 2017 Rolex SD4k sitting quietly at a corner of my friend's store.
Apparently it's been sitting there for awhile, waiting for a new owner to pick it up.
took it out and the next thing i know, i am the new owner.

SD4K - one of the most under-rated diver in the rolex line. everyone is obsessed with the submariners, deepsea seadweller and it's new brother, 43 red seadweller.

regular consumers must be wondering - the submariner date and seadweller 4000 looks awfully similar, why should i pay more? and without a cyclops on a rolex diver, it's not recognisable

it's the last of the seadweller with the original design DNA. the non-maxi case, helium escape valve, matte dial, the fully graduated bezel, 40mm wearable size and the cyclop-less sapphire crystal with a modern movement makes it perfect.
on top of it, it's really short production run.

those who have it, i say hold on to it closely, rolex will never bring it back ever again.

my brother's 16600 and my 116600

114060 vs 116600 (glossy dial vs matte dial)

Love mine - last tool watch (along with the Explorer) that Rolex produced.

I am soooooo jealous right now as it’s a watch I’m desperate to get my hands on.

Had the opportunity to buy a preowned one over the weekend but passed on it as I felt it was too much and I’m sure a better “newer” example will turn up.

A massive congrats to you and hope you enjoy it...if not, give me a nudge!

Congrats on the great find and the beautiful watch. It truly is a beautiful watch and a keeper for those who specifically like it.

Playing the devil's advocate a bit: The only attraction of this one over a comparable SubC would be the non-maxi (5 digit look) case and its graduated dial for me. Otherwise the thick case and added depth functionality that I don't use... and helium valve (added cost of maintenance)... I did see one a few years ago at the local AD sitting right next to a SubC (imagine those days that they were both available at an AD...) and I recommended the SubC to my friend who was looking, over this one. He was even a lesser watch guy than I was at the time. I guess I am trying to say I see why an average buyer would shy away from this in favor of a SubC.

Having a date without a cyclops on a sport watch works for me. I really like the look

I had the opportunity to purchase a pre-owned 16600 about 3-4 years ago in a jewelry store that was in the process of losing their AD status for Omega. They would sell occasionally sell used timepieces and give discounts up to 30% on Omega for good clients. They had a firesale on Omega and took 16600 in trade. I wish I would have pulled the trigger on it. I think it was around $5k at the time. Love the SD. Enjoy it!

I never see enough talk about this watch, the SD4K. It's really a stunner at 40mm and no cyclops, larger indices than the sub, cerachrom bezel, 3135 movement, and produced for a short 4 years by Rolex. It's a great pick up. Good purchase, Congrats OP.

I agree 100%, If you love it you can't go wrong. I only passed due to it's height and not being a fan of dates on Subs.

I agree 100%, If you love it you can't go wrong. I only passed due to it's thickness and not being a fan of dates on divers. I guess I'm just more of a Sub fan. Beautiful piece though. Enjoy!!...
