AD Question

I have no prior existing relationship with this AD, as in I've never purchased anything there. I did go in and speak to a SA a few months ago on a recommendation from my buddy. I told her what I was looking for (a sub [sub no date for some of you]).

We've kept in touch via text message and she's sent me what she's received over the past few months to see if I've wanted any of it. None of which I have wanted or purchased.

She texted me this morning saying "if I possibly got you a no date sub, would you take it?"

I immediately responded "yes!" I then asked if she had one. Her response was "I'm trying."

Obviously its a good sign she's working on it and I'm still in her mind, but I'm curious...does this mean she has one and is hedging to see if one of her preferred customers picks it up or does she really not have it and wants to see if I still want it?

I guess it's totally speculative, but I found it interesting. Any insight? I'm not used to dealing with ADs.

ADs are not a singular entity.

Only one person knows what your particular sales adviser is thinking

Of course. I realize gauging into the mind of a person is difficult, I just was looking to see if anyone had any thoughts, right or wrong. I just thought it was interesting. Hopefully it means I shouldn't be waiting too much longer.

Sounds like she may have something 'in the works' or she would not have messaged you.

It is a sign that she hasn’t lost your name/number. And that she is managing her sales funnel in the CRM the AD uses.

Refreshing funnels is how sales managers forecast pent-up demand for revenue planning.

If the SA is openly communicating with you I would take that as a good sign. After all their job is to sell they'll always offer to sell you things you don't ask for if they currently don't have what you want. Every time I go to the AD to pick something up they'll always bring new pieces that they got in to show me and talk about them. I always have to decline their champagne though and stick with other drinks. Don't want to make a drunk decision

What are the other items she's offered you? Are they SS Sport watches, or the usual line of DJ's that is all you see in showcases these days? If the latter, I would guess that maybe she is just trying to get you into the store so she can try and get you to buy from the current stock -- the "Bait and Switch" sales tactic.

From the few AD's in my area that I've dealt with -- including one where I've spent some money buying my wife a fairly expensive TT w/ diamonds DJ -- they seem to be using the promise of getting you that SS sport watch you want as a way to get you in the store and then sell you something else. Sorry to be cynical about this, but in my area, at least, the AD's seem to be only selling their SS models to VIP clients with a track record of spending lots of money there on jewelry and high-end watches that they can't sell.

Don't mean to rain on your parade, and I hope I'm wrong...

Her other offerings, which have all politely been declined, are as follows:
1. SS YM2
2. TT rg YM
3. SS DJ
4. SS YM
5. TT Daytona
6. TT sub (black dial)

This morning's text was actually the 2nd time asking if I'd take the no date sub. I looked back through our thread and she asked me once before.

Odd.

My guess would be that a Sub came in but her manager or owner - has someone else in mind and she's trying to get the watch for you - if the other person passes.

That's my thought as well.

Odd.
Seems to me that she is simply an aggressive sales agent. She likely has a list of potential buyers, and goes down that list to get as many sales as she can.

There is probably some competition with the popular models. Typically an agent can hold a single model for short bit of time if they have a solid buyer, before they need to release it back to the other agents.

She must not be meeting her sales quota

UPDATE: she just called to tell me that she has my sub! On my way to get it. Now I have to figure out what to tell my wife. I guess it’s better to ask for forgiveness, then ask for permission right? Oh man!

Outstanding. Always ask for forgiveness. You experience sounds like the SA was working in your best interest. I put my name on the list for a BLRO back in Feb 2019. In July 2019 she texted me if I was interested in a TT GMT. I passed and stated I really wanted the BLRO. In January I got the text so now I have my BLRO to go with my SubC ND.

Enjoy the watch!

Sounds like a great SA to me! She offered 3 SS pieces, a TT Daytona, and the SS Sub you were after with no prior relationship.

Agreed. She’s great. Told me after I picked up the sub that I’m now “in” and even mentioned how she didn’t make me buy a diamond DJ to get in and we both laughed about it. She told me to get ready for the next one! Love her already!
