Sacrilege SeaDweller

My good friend Johnny (@flywatch) kindly loaned me his 16600 Sea-Dweller. Not being one for hollow centre links, I’ve put my Oysterflex on it with Smarty end links. Quite possibly a worlds first and not one for the purists. What I will say is that the combination has definitely peaked my interest to the point that I’m seriously considering one for my next piece. The faded and scratches bezel, thin lugs and proportions as a whole - I think - are perfect.

Would love to know if anyone has previously tried this combo or thoughts on it.

Since you are soliciting opinions, end links on a classic diver really really clash, IMHO, but if you’re happy, why not?

I will say the strap colour matches the watch nicely. Looks comfy too!

I share that opinion.

Wore my 16600 on an Isofrane strap for years. A rubber strap on a dive watch works well. End links, IMO, not so much.

Clash, how? Do they clash on the modern PM Daytona? I think you need to get used to it, because I think it’ll be a future iteration.

Agree the end links don’t work however the oysterflex may handle the weight distribution better than the original bracelet.

You asked for opinions and he gave you his and it clashed with what you like so he “should get used to it”?

Agreed as well. Strap looks good, but really not feeling the end links with it.

No, my point was, he should get used to a dive watch on rubber with end links.

Your buddy lent you his watch and you swapped the bracelet?

Yeah, I’m really falling for it and am not really a vintage guy. This has totally changed my mindset. Everything I love about vintage with a modern feel. Really like it.

Fair enough. You asked for thoughts and used "sacrilege" in the title.

Sacrilege SeaDweller

Painful to see a true diver without a means to extend its fitment to use it over a wetsuit. Or did you fit the original clasp to it?

I think it looks great in that photo, and I don’t usually prefer end-links. Judging by the “Sacrilege SeaDweller” title I was expecting to have to come here and defend my TT Sea-Dweller, I was pleasantly surprised!

That's more appropriate rather than sacrilege.

Yeah I think the end links ruin it. Otherwise the rubber is not bad. Lose the end links, five digit references look just fine without them.

Oh you did it Abozz. Never thought this SD43 will take a nato with ease, seems it can take anything and sill manage to look awesome.
Now your bad-boy has not one but two red lines ;-).
Enjoy.

A dive watch on rubber is a natural and time proven combination!!! I think it looks fine or with or without the endlinks. I'd have considered an endlinkless fitted rubber bracelet to avoid the aggravation of getting the strap and endlinks on the watch.
