50th Anniversary Rolex Seadweller

Guys,

Have few questions with regards to the current seadweller.
a) is it known as the 50th anniversary version? when was its 50th anniversary?
b) any nickname such as the hulk, batman, pepsi, kermit etc?
c) how long will it stay in production?
d) will it be collectible as the kermit (submariner 50th anniversary)?

I’m easy with nicknames though I don’t generally use them. But it’s funny that they wind people up.

i tend to use the nicknames in casual conversation, but here i tend to use references.

i don’t mind them either, and i agree with you about the amusing properties of a nickname.

1967-2017 (50th anniversary edition of the Sea Dweller).

Nickname: SD43

Production and collectibility: Time will tell. Is not as hot as the Kermit right now, because is still in production.

the anniversary model is only the Mk I (no crown on 6)
it will certainly be more collectable than the Mk II

my guess is it will be very highly in demand a few years from now...
i predict 20k euros in 3-5 years;)

anyway it is a wonderful watch to wear!

There is no ‘mark two’, even the grey dealers avoid such terms. Many many watches with and without the crown were sold over the same period. Some in 2017 , some not. Some without the change were being sold in 2019. It’s pretty random and suggests both dials were being produced by Rolex at the same time. If it matters, you could srgue that ‘anniversary’ watches were the ones actually sold by ADs in 2017.
. What will matter is if the red writing disappears. Then you really would have a ‘mark two’.
As for long-term values, we can’t know. Could have fallen in price, could have risen, all is possible. There are just so many modern Rolexes, quite different to earlier decades. They’ll never be rare. Far from it.
Best to just enjoy the watch and avoid this sort of pointless speculation.....

Greys avoid calling them "mk2" because it's not a selling point. DavidSW calls the first SD43 "mk1" however and he's not the only one, probably because it's considered a plus. He also charges a little bit more, all other things being equal (between 500 and 1,000 USD if I remember well).

The mk2 SD43s made their first appearance in summer 2018 (unless you have a proof of an mk2 sold in 2017), suggesting mk1s were only made in 2017 and perhaps also in the first half of 2018.

There's probably only a few thousands of mk1s ever made, so they're not rare but certainly less ubiquitous than mk2s produced twice as much and counting.

Agreed that it doesn't really matter and it wouldn't stop me from buying an mk2. But given the choice I'd pick the mk1 as it's kind of cool to have an SD43 from 2017, the 50th anniversary year. It makes it just a little bit more special IMHO.

a) If it has no crown on the dial at 6 o clock, between "Swiss" and "Made", then it's the first year production of the 50th anniversary SD43 (Mk1 dial, known colloquially)
b) Yes! It's the She-Dweller!

Any that was produced in 2017 is the "official" 50th anniversary Sea Dweller. Many know them as the Mk1

The first single red SeaDweller was made in very limited quantities back in 1967. I believe i read somewhere that there are only 10 or so such examples still in existence today.

Just picked mine up yesterday!!! Perfect in size finally. The 40mm seems a bit small to me.

Agree...seems like the SD43 really nailed the proportions right !! I've had vintage and newer Subs/SD's and even a DSSD...at the end of the day the 43 really hit the sweet spot between them all.
