New Truck Tonight

I just got back from the dealership with my new baby. Its a 2009 F150 XLT 4x4 Super Crew with chrome pkg etc. Color is stone green with pueblo gold accent. It is a real beauty. I was set on on either dark blue pearl or oxford white, but when I took the wife in tonight she was dead set on the stone green with pueblo gold accent. Man she has great taste. She was the one who forced me to buy the sub date about a month ago. I don't know what I like looking at more, the sub or the F150. By the way my wife is a KEEPER!!!I'll post pics later as it is raining cats and dogs tonight, with a chance on snow tomorrow.

Here is my 2004 with 130,000 miles. Will keep it another five years. Good job on the 2009. I went with the Lariat package instead of going 4X4. It is my redneck mini-van. Enjoy.

Most think it stands for either "Find On the Road Dead" or "Fix Or Repair Daily". Truth be told it is a Latin word that stands for, "Did Not Have To Take Taxpayers Money For A Bail Out".

"F*&$'d Over Rebuilt Dodge" I thought. Seriously, great truck. I love Fords & especially the F150 lines. Anybody that still thinks the U.S. auto industry is producing crap is proving their ignorance and stuck in the mentality of pretty much late 70's, all 80's and most of the 90's. And beyond that, the U.S. pickup has always been a leader...even during those 'dark years' of U.S. auto manufacturing. They are 'dying' not because of quality control issues or innovation, their business model is broken when you look at the ridiculous mess the company & workers Union have gotten themselves into over the last few decades. How they can survive when they need to employ over 100 people to pay for every 1 retiree is beyond me??? Enjoy your new ride! Cheers.

P.S. Great choice on color BTW...I love green trucks!

Don't have a dog in the hunt with the auto industry, but I heard a statment that I researched and found out to be ture. As of today, there are 96,000 employess hired directy by the Big Three, but they cover health insurance for over 1,000,000 retired employees. The numbers just do not add up. My opinion has always been, no matter the ideals; don't kill the golden goose. What do I know.

Hey congratulations. I love trucks. I still drive a '97 GMC 4x4 with 111,000 miles. It's a good truck so I just keep driving it.

and I'm in the process of rebuilding this '46 Chevy.

Good luck with your new truck. I hope it keeps you happy for years.

The 100:1 ratio is overly simplifying the dilemma...and there is much debate over what the true number is. To be more accurate, the debate really comes down to the hourly wages of Union workers, what it needs to be to pay for retiree benefits and the gap between what the Big 3 can pay, what they must pay, and what their competition at Toyota, Honda & Nissan are paying (which is much healthier for the long term).

Some love to look at the current average of around $38/hour wage, yet I'm sure many have heard about the $70+/hour wage number that is used to explain the dire situation. That figure comes from a combination of current wages & benefits PLUS legacy costs divided by current work hours. Looking at just GM, their wages & benefits liabilities are a little over $70/hr per employee.

Employees at the Big 3 are compensated with funds today while they work and funds tomorrow while they are not working (retirement funds). It is misleading to only count hourly loaded salary as real earnings when the retiree expects to receive benefits after retirement.

Therefore they certainly earn more than $38/hour. If they or their direct dependents live to the average life-expectancy, this would be the equivalent of 35 years at over 70% of their top compensation according to the current UAW contract that expires in 2010. If anything, $70/hr is too conservative.

As you can see, this is a MAJOR problem that many speculate will require either a 10X increase in revenues (which isn't going to happen) or a 10X decrease in wages (which isn't going to happen either)...hence the reason some economists break it down to a 100:1 ratio to make it easier to see the model is not sustainable. Then if you factor into the model the fact that the auto industry is significantly more automated then it was when the retirees were employed, you see why they can build cars with less people as opposed to more. Yikes, that's exactly what the problem doesn't need. Talk about double-edged sword.

At any rate, sorry for the hi-jack...this topic is a bummer. Lets see some pics of that new green pickup to get my mind off bad numbers. Cheers.
