Nice pair of Green Subs Mike.
I guess you really like the Green Subs, what do you consider to be its strong points?
Is there any difference between the "Y" serial, and the F, D and Z serials?

I've read that there were some differences in the fonts on the dials and bezel inserts along the way. Maybe someone can clarify this.

You're right, Paulie.....also there is a difference in the GREEN colour shade of the bezel.

O.K. thanks for that info guys.

I'm getting a "Y" sometime and so I guess I can call it a "real" 50th anniversary and a limited edition (as they don't make "Y" serials anymore)

I wonder what the dial font and bezel insert colour are like on the "Y", but maybe it depends on the batch it was made in of the "Y" serials?

Anyway, time will tell.

I know James, isn't such a fan of the Green Subs, but there's still time for him to acquire serious tastes

You've yet to convince me that green is anything other than the colour of seasick!

Seriously, as I said over coffee the other day, if you can get an LV for the price of a regular Sub, it's all good. I just don't see the point of paying any more than that.

Mike, I never thought I'd see the day when I said, "Nice pair" to a bloke, but there you have it.

Beautiful pic, Mike. You gotta like green, though, to truly appreciate them. I don't have the same reaction to the LV as I have to the Pumpkin, but it's definitely not my taste.

I saw one on an Enterprise Rent A Car exec not too long ago, and I still didn't like it. I thought it stuck out like a sore thumb.

Well others have covered the differences. As to it's strong points, the maxi-dial is for me a huge improvement in legibility and lume. I think it takes Rolex back to the days of the tool watch concept.

As to the green bezel--some like it some don't. I view it as a variation in submariner history.

Couldn't agree more Mike, the only other Submariner I've ever owned was a 1680, so getting the Green Sub is like getting a new, but in the older style of maxi dial.

Although not being critical, I've never had the urge to get a small dot (current) GMT, SD or Sub. I think with the Green Sub and the new 50th GMT and now TT GMT rolex is going back to the larger style of dial (and I like the wider hands too).

I've said it before, Stephen - a good pair of glasses will fix that problem right up!

O.K. Gedanken, you have to admit the other day at lunch you felt compelled to put my new Green Sub on your wrist for size and appearance at least twice.

It was lucky there were napkins close to hand, because you were seriously salivating over that Green Sub. It must have been that deep breath you took upon laying eyes on the Green Sub that kept you from drouling

Now you have to admit the Green Sub would be a very nice pair with your Sea Dweller, and you would go the extra dollar for that green bezel. I mean you could always carry a little sick bag in your pocket if the occasion ever arose.

O.K. now that the truth is out there in the public domain, I guess there's nothing left but for you to go forth and get that Green beastie!

Sorry, for having given the wrong impression, Lol-x - sitting next to that LV, my SD looked so damned good that I started drooling!

And I'll stand by what I've said - a Sub is a Sub is a Sub - I wouldn't pay a cent more if the bezel was green.

O.K. so I'll let you go and pay full retail for your sub and I'll take my Green Sub at a discount (used but as new). Now that's got to make everyone happy

I was going your way on the argument and you just about had me sold until you posted those photos with the tiny G-strings with the inverted triangles (12 O'Clock markers) 1/2 way up the back of the wearers. Those small triangulated sections of dental floss just reinforced my knowledge that maxi dials are better (at least at the 12 o'clock mark) than tiny inverted triangles. Those ladies need to cover up!

Just when you had victory within sight you let defeat (maxi-dial supremacy) win the day.
