Can i wear my SS Sub while surfing in the Pacific Ocean? will the salt water ruin it? any advice would be helpful...

It'll be fine, its natural habitat is water. Just give it a rinse with fresh water once you've finished, and make sure the crown is properly screwed down.

No you cant they just call it a dive watch with a depth of 1000 ft for nothing... JK sure you can thats what they are made for.

I'll provide a dissenting opinion directly related to surfing.

I've surfed with my Sub, on the oyster bracelet, a few times without problems. However, a few members have reported clasps coming open during a wipeout (which never happens to us, right??). Search "clasp" and "surf" and you should find a tale or two.

I only surf now with my Sub on a NATO. The strap is secure, and both springbars have to pop in order for you to lose your watch head. I feel a lot more confident than I did with the watch on the bracelet. And, it's much more comfortable in the water when paddling (doesn't slide around as much).

Good point, Kevin.

Plus, if/ when you wipe out you don't want to scratch the bracelet so the Nato is a great idea. Rolex Sub and a Nato strap make a great match.

Danny, I hit the Shores and Blacks all the time with my GMT, never any problems, just rinse it off with fresh water when you're done. I haven't taken the Daytona in yet, but your Sub will be absolutely fine. I tried to blame the extra weight of the GMT on throwing me off balance, saying that was the reason I was so bad. In reality, I'm just a crappy surfer....

Swim in it.

Before you do ensure your crown it tight.

Afterwards just give it a good rinse.

It's the job it was built for!

Oh but be careful around rocks...if it's rocky then perhaps not...you wouldn't want your saffy to shatter!

Oyster, Submariner, 1000ft....these are key words.

The only thing to possibly worry about is the band. A vicious wipe out could pop the bracelet. But I wouldnt give it much thought.

I have been surfing with both, my TT and SS Subs for 3 years on average 3 times a week throughout the year and have never had any problems whatsoever with any part of the watch.

Not once during countless wipeouts ( up to 8ft waves ) did I have a problem with the clasp opening.

I do make sure to rinse the watch EACH time after a session thoroughly under the tap to get rid of the sea water as the salt leftover can damage the gaskets.

Enjoy your watch and trust me - it makes a perfect surfing buddy!

Oh,....and if you are surfing in shark infested waters do cover it with a neoprene glove if you prefer to keep it together with your arm.

I'm afraid this particular dive watch is only designed for fresh water swimming pools, ponds, and lakes my friend.

X3 for the Nato. Swimming or snorkeling with the ss bracelet is one thing but surfing...........you know your gonna wipe out and tumble around......get a nato, and maby insurance as well

Danny, you own one of the best diving watches in the World (if not the best)
You may use it in any Ocean or sea, or lake, or pool you´ll dare to dive, swim, or surf in. I´ve been using mine for years, both diving and in daily use, with no problems including bracelet.
It´s a professional diver tool!
Now, if the possibility of a bracelet failure bothers you, an Nato strap could be a good peace of mind maker.

people wear theres for 40+ years workin on boats under the water and dont even service and they run fine... ur good.. its made for abuse.. its a tool watch not a status symbol as some thing.. a 500k patek minute repeater is a status symbol.. not a 5k watch.
