Are PM models (specifically Day-Date) blowing up next?

I hadn’t visited the classified section here in a while but I just went in there looking for a 36 mm Day-Date, just kinda day dreaming.

And dang....

I want to say I scrolled through 50 posts and only saw 3 Day-Dates for sale?

Mostly everything is SS sports.

Is that because of the hype? Or all the people that “invested” in them and are now selling them or what?

Also, the Rolex website shows the Day-Date in all its glory as you check in to the website.

Is gold and two tone making a come back!?

All I know, is that a 36mm Daydate will be on my wrist by next January

Yeah right, sounds like grey tactic, plenty of surplus of DDs that are not moving and won't be for a while, it's not an easy sell even before all this.

I know of 2 grays off the top of my head that have been bumping the same day date 40 since (Atleast) January. I’ve been looking for one myself so that’s when I started tracking them. Only now have I seen one of those grays cut the price a little

Day dates will drop throughout 2020 is my guess. I can't decide if I want one or an AP for my first big boy watch but I'm probably a buyer at $25K for WG blue or green dial. I see many creeping under $30K depending on dial color so I'm hopeful.

I’m sure they’re not easy to sell. Apparently even ADs have trouble selling them

Do you think that if SS sports drop in price, PM models will do the same?

Very good tastes! I saw a YG 36mm DD with a blue dial on a YouTube video and it looked real nice

Its simple.

The gold pieces wont drop as much as all the hyped SS pieces. That is why there are 1000s of the hyped models for sale now. Every dick and harry who bought them hoping for continuous growth forever wants out.

Gold pieces may drop but they have been pretty stable and never grew exponentially. You might see a few green dial Daytona's popping up more soon though.

I think, simply, there are so few people in the market for a solid gold watch that I don't think they'll ever blow up. SS has been and always will be super cheap at MSRP compared to PM, so there's a much larger market. Even at grey prices for most of the hyped SS references you're talking half of MSRP PM.

I tried on a 36mm DD and it was just too small for me. If it had worked I would pick up a white Roman dial for $15K right now from OC watch guy.

Looks sick!! Awesome combo.

Agree 10000% - if your going to get a DD just get the pinnacle and get the DD40.

Do it once and do it right.

What size wrist? What do you usually wear?

I wonder if it was actually small or just seemed small to you. I went from a submariner and skx007 to a Datejust 36 and at first it seemed tiny

Now I feel like it’s MY size

lol absolutely not. 36mm DD is barely sold, hence there being not many for sale on secondary market. 40mm is way more popular. And no, I never see this being over retail. I could get this for 25% off even a couple years ago.

I expect the 218239 Day Date II to drop further in value

That's when I strike!

Isn't the DD2 a discontinued model? Are you looking to buy a used one?

I believe all Rolex will retract in value. Gold will likely lead the retreat.

blowing up next? I doubt it. Last year I saw a white gold day date set that I was really considering and it was posted for $13.5k, in two weeks it was eventually sold at $12.5k. They tank usually. Although it was a great deal, its way too early for me to have a PM piece.

My wrist is 7.25 to 7.5" but is not flat. I use all the links in a DJ41 or GMT oyster. Daytona is the size / look I prefer as the lugs lay flat on my wrist. My 40 mm GMT and sub are as large as I would go. I'm just not into big watches.

If you've tried the 36mm and it gives the look you want then I'm jealous and you should get one immediately and never look back.

Buy the DD40. Looks much more modern and the dial/metal combinations are fantastic. I tried on the RG/Olive dial and it was very nice. Fit my 7.5 inch wrist perfecto!

My take is prices won't deviate much. Guys that I know that buy full PM pieces are not counting pennies to fund the purchase, have been in the watch community for a while, more deliberate when buying and it was an affordable purchase for them in the truest sense. They won't have to sell out of necessity, more stable inventory.

I am on the hunt for a 228238 DD40. Hoping to pull trigger at around £21,000 or $27000US for a year old version
