What years did Rolex stop using Alpha Hands on DJ???

Hey guys! I saw a pretty shady looking Datejust on another forum from 1970 with a matte black gilt dial and alpha hands in a stainless case. I've never come across a DJ with alpha hands past '66, much less all the rest.

It's fishy for sure. I think that sigma dials only started in 1970 and that is too late for the alpha hands IMO.

I'm no expert, but upon reference with the Vintage Rolex field guide.

It states that alpha hands were 1940s- mid 1960s. Materials of the hands should match the rest of the watch. A SS case should have similarly colored hands/ markers. Whether they be white gold, platinum or SS.

Apparently they did make gilt dials till the late 70s. However, there are alot of highly counterfeit due to their desirability.

The fact that this doesn't appear to be a 2 tone watch, given the fact that it has a white gold bezel seems to be a red flag.

My 2 cents. No expert by any means.

At best a frankenwatch. Once again TRF provides another public service to the WIS community
